Yesterday I had four calls from four different numbers with the same recorded announcement telling me that I had missed a call from my internet services provider so it had me wondering if it was a franchise operation :D

I get similar stuff as well - makes me wonder why I always seem to get these calls in batches, usually clustered around similar time periods.

Is it contract renewal time - opportunity to negotiate???

No. These are most likely scams - if Ian got a call from 4 different numbers all with the same message purporting to be from his ISP it's probably not legit.

I suspect it has something to do with mailing/phone lists that end up in spammers/scammers databases which are then picked up and acted on - not sure about the exact mechanism though.

Definitely there is a scam going on be careful not to call back as its often a premium charge number, I had a call saying my ISP was cutting me off

They seem to have changed tack recently as it's often no longer a recorded announcement but from a human obviously in a call centre and always with a pronounced Asian accent.

Yesterday's call from this Asian call centre told me that he was calling from Openreach which was obviously not true so I told him that he was a lying P*** c*** and told him to f*** off before putting the phone down.

I don't really like to be abusive or to use such racist terms but I've found in the past that it gains me a few weeks of peace and quiet before it starts up again and if he objects to be referred to in such racist terms perhaps he should consider a change of profession

I must have had about 8 different broadband suppliers, 6 Banks worrying abut suspicious transactions, going to be disconnected in a few hours.

I find it so reassuring all these companies are so keen to look after and contact me. Maybe they just love talking to my answerphone

For some reason they don't like it when you blow the dog's whistle down the phone at them.

All these scams seem to come out of India, so calling them Pakistani is about the worst insult you can give them. :D

It's like calling a Scotsman English.

They have been particularly prevalent, again, recently. Perhaps the scam call centres have re-opened after covid.

I also get these type of calls on my mobile and line number quite often. It's so annoying. They are scams. Block these numbers if you can.

There are a LOT of scams going around, I do wonder if anyone has picked up a call and mistook a genuine call for a scam call, not very likely I know, but could be embarrassing.

A number of scammers use VOIP calling, and they can change their number with the press of a button, I find it best to report the number to the VOIP provider, they can block their batch of numbers if they are using it for scamming.
