Why would the party remove its leader?

Because a huge number of responsible people believe that her policies as Home Secretary have caused the death of 29 people in the last month. Maybe that's not a good reason for you.

Paul Johnson, Director of the Institute of Fiscal Studies does not believe Labour's spending is affordable and would not be met by the proposed taxation levels.

Labour is like a comic clown throwing sweeties to the kiddies.

As I recall the Conservatives dropped tax rate and increased tax take. Labour want to do the opposite for the same result?
No matter, easy enough for a company to base itself in the EU and treasury loses UK corporation tax.

Wow, blaming the decisions of the home secretary now?
OK, what should have been done different? What would have stopped any of these attacks before they were made?

Firstly, she could have maintained police numbers. Secondly she could have followed the Dutch policy of controlling mosques.

That is just 2 things. There are dozens more.

How would 20,000 more police have prevented any of the terrorist attacks in the past few months?
The reduction in police - has there been a massive increase in crime in the past few years? Judging by the crime statistics, not really.

Controlling mosques? And the dutch don't have any terrorists using their mosques?

Not removing 20,000 serving police officers.

I think Andy Burnham was the Labour Shadow when he advocated reducing Police spending by an ADDITIONAL 10% in 2015.

Labour blame the Conservatives for things they actually thought they had not gone far enough.
At the same time May had secured a commitment in autumn 2015 not to go ahead with a further 20% cut in police budgets but instead protect them in cash terms. This was however not before Labour’s then shadow home secretary, Andy Burnham, had actually argued that forces could cope with a further budget cut of up to 10%

What would 20,000 more police officers, say several hundred of them on duty across a city at any one time, have done to prevent any attack?

It would have increased local knowledge. it would have increased local acceptance of the police and reporting of concerns. It may not have prevented the attacks, but it certainly did not help prevent them.,

    Chaos!

I am hoping for May to win, so that we can have a 'Hard Brexit' and run the UK economy straight into a brick wall!

Imagine the glorious chaos, as the thousands of trucks a day deliver goods that suddenly have to be processed in customs sheds we don't have, stored in bonded warehouses that are not there and all inspected by customs officials that do not exist!

And the same chaos will be happening in Calais, Dublin, Holyhead and Ostend and possibly even in Newry, as the Irish border closes.

A Hard Brexit and WTO rules? Great - the UK then would be the only country on Planet Earth that is not in some sort of trading bloc. Even the leaders of North Korea (when they are not biting the office carpet, facing a firing squad for not laughing loud enough at Our Dear Leader's jokes, or just disappearing under suspicious circumstances) realised that they need to trade with their neighbours, if they want to survive!

I like chaos. So come on Theresa, baby! Give me some of that Hard Brexit!
    soul

I believe several of the 28 countries are already making contingency plans for the infrastructure for a hard Brexit, which seems to be what is going to happen whatever party gets elected. I think Jeremy Corbyn will be so disinterested in Brexit that we will just sleep walk into a hard Brexit with all the consequences that The Byre has outlined. Theresa May already knows that a hard Brexit is probably the only thing on offer from the 28 countries if free movement is to be on the table as she would have been briefed by Civil Servants and diplomats etc on these matters.

Theresa May was a failure when acting as Home Secretary. I'm not sure why people will expect a different outcome now she is Prime Minister.

That said, the candidates for Labour are not much better.

The election is really a vote for the least crap.

A failure that kept her job for 6 years then was put forward as party leader?
Doesn't sound like a failure. Does sound like you don't like her.

No one ele wanted the Home Office. It was known as a poison chalice, but May wanted a job.

It's about police officers building relationships with communities. To see the early warning signs. To have a face to approach if you have a concern, rather than a hotline.

So the current 126,000 police officers cannot do that job?
What difference would the extra 20,000 make in regards to terrorist attacks?

Relationships, early warning signs - but what can you imprison someone for?

What did those who did the terrorism in the past few months do that was criminal prior to the attack?

The car companies are already getting ready to reduce ranges, so that they can maintain market share at lower prices, as they may have to swallow a 10% tariff. The German government has already been in strategy talks with the big three car companies and you should see a big reduction in options in the coming two years.

Renault-Nissan-Dacia-Infiniti (all one lump) may do the same - but they are in wait-and-see mode!

1 police officer could do the job. It would take time. Several bodies notified May at the Home Office that what she was doing was dangerous and could result in terrorist attacks. She announced they were scaremongering.

Just the same way that the Tory party today claims that doctors claiming that the NHS cannor cope are scaremongering.

So say 2 or 3 more police in a borough at any one time would have made that much difference?
Those who want to contact the police - they could still do so after 2010?

Perhaps the NHS needs to learn something from private sector then.
Or should its work be outsourced?

20,000 across the country. How many are on duty at any one time? How many are off shift, training, in court, on holiday, doing paperwork in office etc?
And that's across the country. So how many would you expect to get in a borough of London extra as police on the street out of 20,000?

If 20,0000 wouldn't make a difference, why not cut another 20,000?

Or we could just give every citizen over the age of 18 a baton and full powers of arrest?

    Good idea.

My younger brother was a police special for 10 years and worked as an auxiliary nurse in a hospital for all those years. Security would call him down from his ward some of the time to help them - he had the arrest power they did not. He also carried spare cuffs.
A busy night they could be holding a drunk violent person for an hour or more until police turned up.
And before anyone says about cuts, this was under Labour government in its final few years.

I've been a lifelong tory, but they've lost my confidence, but labour is just something I don't think I can support - so I've done a couple of the questionnaire style "who shall I vote for" things and my responses to two totally separate types and styles of questions produced the same result. I'm UKIP! Amazing as I didn't realise this was where 62% of my opinions pointed - labour at 48 and tory at 52. One of these tests also asked for a postcode and tells me that a vote for UKIP in my locality would be wasted as they have a very slim chance of winning - so tactically I would be best voting labour. For the first time in my life, I genuinely have no string enough opinion and I don't like this. I don't want to waste the vote, but tactical voting seems somehow wrong?
