How did you setup your Paypal Account?

Hi I'm currently setting up a Paypal business account to allow my new site to be able to take Paypal Express payments and wanting to know basically which is the recommended option.

1. Do I call the account my business name, even though this is completely different to my websites name, I did this because I want to expand the business into different fields in the future.

2. Or should I call it for now under my website name as I don't want to put people off when they buy and see that the business name is different to the site name.

Just wondered what other people have done. I could write on my about page on the site that this website is owned by my business name but not everyone would read that. If there was a way to have this statement on the checkout itself that would be great. Does anyone know if this is possible to achieve.

Cheers

As far as I am aware, you must use your business name. Because when you connect your bank account, it only lets you connect to an account with the name you gave. So you should include Ltd if you are a limited company.

Cheers guys, I'm a sole trader though and it does give you the option of changing the business name, so it is possible I think to call the account after the website name.

I'll call it the business name though and look to add something in the footer of my site and in the about us section saying site owned by my business, it will make expanding in the future easier.

Not sure about this Rob. I have a business name PayPal account which is linked to a bank account in my own, personal name, and I have never had any trouble.

Ok, something must have changed. I just remember a couple of years back when I changed from sole trader to Ltd, when entering my bank details the business name was pre-filled and I couldn't change it.

IIRC you change the account name in another part of the PayPal control panel, and wait for approval that the new name is OK. The approval is to weed out the really funny people who want to change to "Ivor Bigun" and other sidesplitters.

My PP account is EU so perhaps the rules are different, buit the Paypal account name had to be the registered business name. Paypal seems to offer the chance to put a trading name in, but in practice this doesn't work in my experience - you just go round in circles. So I use my company name which is nothing like my website name, and put a short paragraph on the website to explain who owns the site. Never been questioned by anyone & not a problem. I don't think many people care what the Paypal account name is that comes up - your item description is there plus the price, and that's what they are looking at. You can put your logo on too which will probably help.

Bang goes my plan for a Paypal account in the name of Drew Peacock then.
