Hi all
My brother is about to go solo and has been getting quotes for a VPS.
I am still trying to pin him down on his requirements so that I can try to advise him as per his needs. The problem is that I don't think that he really knows what he actually needs.
At start up there will a team of three, he intends to expand but I don't know how fast that will happen.
He is under the impression that he needs 3 seats for Win 2008 with exchange, remote destops and sage line 50 (I guess that is sage 50 accounts?). I believe that he will also be hosting his site on the server as well. Finally he will need CRM software such as this http://www.troysoft.com/te.aspx (not sure which version though). Oh and SSL etc.
I appreciate that the above is vague.
What would you anticpate his server requirements would be?
He has sent me one price that he received- struck me as being pretty high and the ToCs were not particularly favourable.
The monthly charge is £483.62 !!!
And consists of
£360 Managed virtual 2008 server (1 cpu, 8gb ram, 40gb storage, 1 Mps CDR, full back ups)
£50 Shared firewall
£20.19 for 3 hosted exchange mailboxes
£9.01 for 3 remote desktops SAL
£9.40 for 3 windows server SAL
£35.02 for office 2010 pro plus
On top of that there are
£150 SSL for remote desktop (annual)
£632.22 Sage Line 50 Licence
(free server config/setup if he signs up for 3 years)
The above sounds expensive to me but, hey I run one of my magento stores on VPSVille at £20pm
I am happy to accept PMs from members that want to contact him via me but please outline you proposals as fully as possible
In my limited capacity I am inclined to recommend that he massively scales things back- at least for the first year (ie whilst he earns virtually nothing). For example, using the free sage from Lloyds (run locally and available via remote desktop), office 365, an alternative CRm that can be hosted on the same server as the web site.
Any suggestions
Thanks
