Hello,

I have just set up a limited company and need a phone for business. I have my eyes on an iPhone as it has good email capability.

I was wondering what the rules were surrounding mobile phones and business? Can I reclaim the VAT I pay? As a business phone, how can the cost be reclaimed?

Also, I'd go for a Blackberry if you're going to be using your phone for business, the Curve (8900) is unbeatable and available on the T-mobile deal

Providing you are VAT registered you can offset the VAT you pay against the VAT you charge to your customers. If you are not VAT registered then you can't reclaim it.

The iphone is our winner by a long country mile! There's just no beating its simplicity, and it's truly addictive and fun to use.

The VAT is only claimable if you are VAT registered.

I used to chop/change between blackberry and windows based smart phones. Both had big pro's and cons! Interestingly niether ever copied each other either. In the end Blackberry won out becasue they offer full practical email functionality, including push.

But then I got an iPhone! Which now DOES support push and to be honest with the right apps does everything any blackberry i have used will do.

It's also cheaper! £30 per month is all I pay and that includes unlimited net usage, 100mins and I think 600 texts. How can blackberry compete with that?

Add in to the mix that iPhone is easier to use and therfore you will actually make use of all the features. Also useful to watch iPlayer programmes for free in bed over wifi while the other half snores

iPhone is so much better than any competitor. True I would like a physical qwerty keyboard. Maybe a better camera. But it's still the best of a very good crowd.

I have an iPhone for personal use and an 8900 Curve for business and wouldn't have it any other way. For straightforward receiving and replying to emails in a nice light easy to use form, BB wins hands down.

I have a Macbook Pro and iPhone for personal use and again wouldnt have it any other way, when combined with mobileme which is about £5 a month, everything is kept in perfect sync.

I can agree that for email alone blackberry is faster and neater. The problem is I like the full gadget credential and abilities of the iPhone and would miss it if I used another phone! And I would rather sacrifice technically faster email than carry two phones

It may be true to say the the iPhone is the ultimate executive toy... Anyone else follow up business introductions by showing the other party the carling pint pouring game?

I think the iPhone is great but I think BB's are great for business emailing.

Well, i prefer to have the 2 devices as I want to be able to get away from work at the weekend.

So the BB tends to spend the weekend on my desk.

When I am out on the road and I need to repond to emails quickly, the interface, physical keyboard, stability of the software and seemless integration with the exchange server just makes it so much easier.

However, when I want to listen to music, surf the internet, mess about with apps etc in my spare time, the iPhone comes into its own.

Yes, it is difficult to reply to a text or email using a touchscreen whilst driving isn't it dangerous too, and I hear it may even be considered naughty...

For that reason - I do wish the iPhone had a physical key pad. No less naughty, but much easier I'll admit.

Agree in that respect too - my Blackberry can sit for days and still have battery left. I have docks all over my house, office and car for the iPhone!

Not sure about T-Mobile but I would agree with the Blackberry.
