Public sector vs private sector

A recent survey by WH Marks Sattin found that almost 20% more accountants would consider working in the public sector than this time last year.

Which side of the fence are you on? If you currently work in the private sector, would you consider moving across and if so, why?

What are the differences for accountants between working in the public sector and being in the private sector?

This is just a suggestion, would pay have anything to do with it? Private sector tend to pay better than public sector.

Benefits. Public sector pensions and benefits are almost the holy grail. You may not get as much top line pay, but flexible working is almost a right in public sector where as you still have to fight for it in the private sector.

Risky strategy. Public sector pensions are a disaster waiting to happen; the Post Office news today is just the tip of the iceberg, and that tip is "significantly greater" than the estimated £5.9bn.

..there again the better ones (accountants) will be left in the private sector..plus ca change...
