Anyone used Adelante or similar?

We're looking for a card machine for the first time. We've come to the conclusion that a virtual terminal would be better for us as opposed to a physical card machine.

We can then have multiple operators, take card payments anywhere in the world on annything with a web browser.

Ive also looke at the Adelante iPhone POS but their charges are twice what I've been quoted from other companies offering virtual terminals.

Does anyone deal with Adelante? Are they any good? Is there anything similar but better? Will they negotiate on their charges?

If anyone is using a virtual terminal how do your clients feel about you punching their card details into a mobile phone, iPad, android, laptop......etc? Are they comfortable with this?

Spooky,I was looking at them this morning.I await comments with interest.
PS OP what other companies were half the price, all the others I saw were more expensive? also Adelante can hook you up with a merchant account, which you will need to run credit card payments, did the others offer this to you?

The company I was speaking to who were cheap were recommended to me. I also came accross them on LinkedIn as they seem to have supplied most of the companies I deal with with card machines. They're basically a broker and could get us set up with a merchant account with Lloyds. Check out www.acceptcards.co.uk. They quoted me 23p for debit cards and 1.65% for credit card. Not quite half price but quite a bit cheaper.

I've been using WorldPay's virtual terminal to take card payments on my Samsung Galaxy Tab for around 6 months now and no one has had any problem with it. I usually point out the time saving it give me over having to keep taking cheques to the bank. I'd say 60%-75% of my customers have opted to pay by card rather than cash since I've had the VT.

This is something ive been wondering myself, Ive looked at a few apps and there always seems to be an additional cost either in setup or transaction fees, which is fine if theres no alternative.

Quick question then using a virtual terminal over a phones browser or I'm thinking of using my iPad tethered to my iPhone will it work over 3G? A lot of websites can see if your connecting from a mobile device so will the virtual terminal sites block connection?

If not then it seems a no brainer to have a VT account and forget the dedicated apps with extra fees

I use Adelante on a samsung gaalxy s2 for a company I work with, cannot comment on the cost since the company stands the costs, but the system works very well.

I process approx 5-10 payments per day using the system, in a year or so only had two problems where the system hangs, a quick call confirms whether the payment has been processed or not.

A very useful tool I could see many people benefiting from.

The virtual terminals can be used from an iPad over 3G. I'd prefer a dedicated app really as a lot of the time I don't have 3G reception so a dedicated app will still work. The issue with a virtual terminal is that your iPad or phone needs a reasonable connection to download the data to display the interface. With a dedicated app this is already native on the phone so it's sending minimal data via your phone network.

There are a lot of companies in the USA offering a type of cars that your phone clips into. This then provides the ability to swipe a card. I'd like this method as I feel it would look more legitimate in front of customers.

Does anyone know of any in the UK that offer a swipe case for your phone to clip into?

There is a new chip and pin terminal solution being launched in the next month from a major card terminal manufacturer. It will offer secure chip and pin card payments at low risk rates and the terminal will be half of current terminal prices.
I can let you know as soon as I have more information if needed
