Wow, what a week!
my new fruit and veg business went live last friday night when i had an article and advert in the local press
I had a couple of people contact me from that - all in the green/local/slow food type movement inviting me along to attend local food supply meetings - perfect (although i already had the events in my diary!!)
the saturday involved me and an army of friends leafleting the town and villages around me
1 hour after the 1st leaflet was posted, we had our 1st order!!! I was ecstatic - and convinced by the end of the day i'd have 50+ orders!! LOL
8 hours later i had a new found respect for postmen!!
we sat down to have a celebratory dinner - we had 2 orders and 2 enquiries by the end of that 1st day, the 2 enquiries became orders the next day.
more leaflet distribution continued and as of today, we've put out 9k flyers
we have a free prize competition in the local paper today and we have an ad in a local publication which just has ads for a lot of local businesses. However, as well as my ad i've also got a flyer inserted into this. So as of tomorrow, everyone in town should be seeing the flyer for a second time in the space of a week - as well as seeing my logo'd up van out and about all the time (i've been leaving it parked in strategic places all week)
We have managed 2 orders a day and 2/3 enquiries a day for the whole week. The 1st orders were delivered on wednesday night - and i really enjoyed making up the boxes and jumping in the van to go deliver them and meet my customers
Tomorrow I have agreed with the local deli owner to put a few of my fruit and veg boxes on display in his shop and he will put flyers into all his customers bags and talk up the new business whilst I pace the high street handing out flyers
Hopefully I'll have another 6 new orders booked by sunday - and a few repeat orders from my 1st customers - giving me about 20 deliveries next week
my original thoughts on how things would pan out haven't worked out as expected, i thought most orders would be via the internet with customers picking the contents, but no, most are phone orders for random selection of items.
the order values are much bigger than i'd planned for too - which is nice
My plan had been for a weekly box service, but i can see that there will be a good demand for a priority next day service - which will bring me extra revenue.
Had lots of good suggestions for new "market" opportunities too that i hadn't considered. Once i'm a bit busier, i'll put them into practice and offer a few more services
this time next year Rodney!!!!!
