Youtube Promo

I'm thinking about doing a little promo video for Youtube. It'll probably comprise both a little footage of the shop and HD still images of our products. We already have a (simple) Flash slideshow on our web home page, so I'd probably initially base it on this but maybe beef it up a bit and make it longer (up to 2 mins?)

We are already Facebooked, Twittered and Pinterested so I'm thinking a Youtube promo might be an interesting addition to our overall profile.

I'd be interested in knowing if anyone else on here has tried this to promote a B&M shop and/or website like this before and what were the outcomes?

Aside from us promoting it directly on our website and in the shop, how likely is it to be seen 'by chance' as it were by Youtube viewers?

As far as I can see, if all it costs me is the time putting it together (which I shall probably really enjoy doing), then another form of publicity is no bad thing surely?

What does the panel think? :)

there's no harm in doing it, especially if it's something you'll enjoy, and if you've got other working social media to link to it certainly can't do any harm. as to whether anyone stumbles across it on youtube, it really depends on what your business is and how you tag it and your overall SEO stratergies. Bottmo line is have fun and see what happens!

That is so untrue. It can do a great deal of harm if it's poorly done. A video has to be great and professional in quality, anything less makes a business look like a amateur set up at best and a scam and worst.

Personally I wouldn't take the risk unless it's being professionally done.

I made a couple of Promo videos for my new blog and a post. I used After Effects which is something used by film professionals. I created a Youtube channel in the name of the blog.

I used my other social media channels to promote the videos and I intend to grow the same with a series of 'how to' videos.

I will be selling my video services and a video like the ones I have done so far would be around £50 each

Take a look at mine to see what can be done

If you are teaching yourself, have fun and good luck

I think... it's worth dabbling in.

YouTube can be very competitive though simply due to the sheer amount of content on there. It's also of course not very easy to target to one specific (or even vague) geographical location.

I would say make videos that are very eye-catching and really encourage the user to click them - I suppose think about what would tempt YOU to click on a video and watch it, and try to create that for others.

Best of luck :)

I'd have to disagree with some of the people who say that if it's badly done video then it can do harm.

Video that generates the most traffic on our youtube channel to our site is one I did years ago and it generates the most traffic.

It's so bad I even forgot to set the white balance on the camera and it was just the camera stationary videoing one of our old photoshoots.

Most viewed video is one I just put together with animoto and it was just a still slideshow. (937,000 views)

So whilst yes everyone would love to have a flashy, professionally made (or looks like it is) video it's not the be all and end all of things. It's what generates the most traffic for you.
