Young Entrepreneurs

Hello all,

Just curious to see if there are any young entrepreneurs in the area. A few young companies are looking to start a very informal young entrepreneurs networking group. The average age of the members at the moment is around 24, however, we don't cap the age for members so younger business people can feel more comfortable and older business people are welcome if they think they'd be comfortable within such a group, almost an 'as old as you feel' type arrangement.
We just meet, for free, at bars, pubs or special events we set up ourselves. No time limit, no obligations, no rigid agenda, just to chill out and unwind with like minded people and inevitably business is passed quite casually.

The group is in embryonic stages at the moment and I'm posting this on behalf of the main co-ordinator so if you think you'd be interested then PM me and I can pass you on, or give you some more details.

Lastly, I'd just like to make clear this Isn't an 'ageist' thing - the companies involved have come together because it was they who felt disrespected and ignored within established networking groups, and of course a united belief we shouldn't have to pay to meet people! That is all.

I'm in I'm 20 and my online Business Partner is 18 and my offline business partners is 21 where would you be planning to meet.

Nothing is set just yet, we're gauging interest and making plans to make sure it'll work first. We've had a couple of initial meetings, and they've just been in different drinking establishments. What do you do Dalton?

Though 26 is not young but it's good to keep with up with experienced guys who just crossed 24 and have been in this particular business world..! Atleast they would get time to enjoy with the young ones..

A few e-commerce sites and looking into a coffee bar for when the market starts to come back up. Was at the excel centre just yesterday in fact trying all the food and coffee was good. J

Seriously, the more I think about it, the more I really love this idea. As great as they all are and I don't want to be rude about them, at 23 I feel the odd one out around everyone at most of the networking meetings I go to as the difference in age between me and the next youngest person is, well, normally double my age.

I think if would be marvellous to have a network group that is full of young energetic entrepreneurs!

Like I said before, no one is too old as long as you're happy to be encouraging and helpful to us younger people, and feel comfortable with a different dynamic. No real agenda or pressure, and if the mood takes you, no need to talk about business either.

Anyway, will keep you updated, like I said, I'm not in charge so don't really know much about the state of play right now.

I think young I think. And young business in Cloud Computing, opened our doors 3 weeks ago. Run you business from iPhone sort of thing, so we have very young companies / startups using us.


My young business tips:

some of the business link advisors are young, get them to help your events. They love events, they are measured on them.


Princes Trust give grants to 3,000 young startups per year.


Meetup.com is the best place to self-organise a peer group.

drinkTank, miniBar and openCoffee london are 40% young and free networking groups (mainly social and software bus types though)


FreeIndex.co.uk best place to get listed and reviews. (8 reviews will get you to the top maybe.)


statbrain.com to see traffic or google trends. Handy for finding places to advertise.


Google this to find places to promote your business:
[your business field - film production, blank for general] add URL (or) submit URL will find you places to add your business profile.

Although you have all made me feel old (I am over 30) I am just starting up and think young or old people offer good valuable advice and encouragement to one and all regardless of age.

Hey Lambda Films,

I think this is a really great idea - getting younger business people together, and I'd love to come along to one of your meetings (even though you're making me feel well past my prime at the tender age of 29!). Only problem is you guys meet all the way over in Norwich, which is a bit far from me in the Midlands, if you're planning on doing one a bit more central I'd love to come along.

Or failing that, would you mind if I tried something similar by getting a bunch of us 'young' entrepeneurs together in the Midlands area?

Thanks for replying, sorry things have been a bit lax lately, we've been really really swamped. Hattey will be nice to meet you once we get another meeting going, and Al, of course you can try setting up your own thing, we haven't created anything unique, it's just a shame you can't join us.

I'm probably into the "older" range now at 38 and starting to say things like "Well, I tried that and it didn't work" which just gets you into trouble

... but just as a thought, have you thought of floating this idea to Princes trust and/or Business link as a way to get more younger thinking entrepreneurs together in more than one place?

I'd tend to agree that something like this would be of interest, even to me as I know the feeling of turning up to find a sea of suits passing round business cards touting for business just switches me right off.
