Would you carry on?!

I supply products (non-food, non-confectionery) to convenience stores, newsagents, petrol stations etc on a sale or return basis as a franchise and am self-employed. The franchisor has said it is up to franchisees if they carry on or not, but they are operating as normal, and our shops would appreciate us continuing to supply them, and it would protect our space in stores. We spend a minimum of 20 minutes in store but more often a lot longer and don’t have access to hand washing facilities as we are out on the road. I stopped working 10 days ago as I don’t feel it’s responsible/safe to continue but they are implying that other franchisees are still going out. Just wondered what others thoughts are?

20 minutes a time? Some of us are still working normal days, with the public.

There's no reason you can't make the same precautions as other people working? Adjust your procedures? Wear gloves? Ask the stores for hand wash facilities? Keep distance from people etc

It's really a balance of how worried your are about said virus vrs the odds of likely losing your job/income

Surely the shops have hand washing facilities that you can use before you leave their store? There are still lots of people having to carry on as normal -it's just the non essential retail, hospitality and leisure that have been closed down. You can chose to stop working if you wish, but don't expect the shops to carry on using you when this is all over. The stores are still working hard getting supplies to the public, where their risk of infection is far higher, and they in turn rely on their supply chain - i.e. you. If everyone felt that way, no one would be working.

Boil some water in the morning and bang it in a flask.

That being said, I would not be going out. You can still catch this through particles in the air through your mouth, nose or even eyes. Not worth the risk to me personally.

Im not sure if your mum said this but if everyone else jumped under a bus, would you?

Oh dear, another snowflake !

It won't be the Wuhan Flu which brings us to our knees it will be the OTT reaction to a near zero risk.
I’m not too sure if you have directed this comment at me, but if you look at the date I posted this question, it was just after the lockdown had been announced and I was asking whether others thought it was right to continue working supplying a non-essential item, whilst spending lengths of time in close contact with lots of people across many stores in several counties. I am glad that I had stopped working for the 10 days prior to Lockdown when people were panic buying and crowding into stores for loo roll and pasta, as I believe this was when a lot of infection occurred. After reading the suggestions of members of this forum, I took their advice regarding hand-washing and have worked continuously throughout this time - shops have been exceptionally busy. I guess the only factor in some people’s eyes is ££££‘S and stuff your responsibility for the health of others.

Have to admit I missed it, my bad.

Congrats on working your way through, H+S is important, and should have been guided by your employer rather than left to yourself. My comments were made thinking you had just posted recently. Apologies.
