Windows 8 ?

Tried downloading the preview a couple of days ago and it said my computer didn't match the specifications as it didn't have a large enough processor. I have an intel i3 3.1GhZ processor. Not massive, but hardly pre-historic.

Windows has done this before.

I don't even have Windows 7 yet. :redface:

I'm feeling a bit behind the times. Although I'm sure someone around here somewhere is probably still on XP, which makes me feel better.:D

I love windows 7. I loved xp, then vista came to ruin my life and thankfully it was replaced by 7 which im not in any rush to upgrade.

Actually, I have a really old laptop which runs XP. I upgraded the RAM to a mighty 2 Gig, and it does pretty much everything I want a computer to do.

I also have an old desktop which I wiped and installed a basic Linux system on (Ubuntu) which is just as fast as my high spec pc running Vista Business.

I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 not long after it came out. Windows Vista never appealed to me because it became apparent very early on that nobody seemed to like it, for whatever reason. I'd definately recommend Windows 7 to an XP user, but I agree with what Banned said about buying new computers. Paid £120 second hand for my computer and it came with the original OS disk, monitor and Microsoft Office installed too.

For now, though, I have no problem with Windows 7.

Win 7 fixed Vista issues - damn don't I remember them! One moment its rapid fast and the next slow as anything. This is without mentioning crashes but the biggest annoyance with Vista for me was windows losing focus... that is to say, you are typing in the active window one moment, the next (although its still appears active) you are typing on to the taskbar (?) - no toolbars - and losing everything you typed.

Windows XP is epic. I still use it as despite "compatibility mode" I have many software and some drivers which wont work with Vista, Win 7 etc.

As for Windows 8... I have downloaded the preview when it was first announced. Never got round to installing it to try it out. I think the concept is fab but I think there will be something annoying to many people. Anyone found out what that is yet?

my laptop own a windows 7 when i bought it in 2009 , but soon i changed to windows XP. now i stil use windows XP .nothing trouble me.

We're yet to try Windows 8 however been keeping a close eye on it. As its apparently using the Windows 7 core it will probably be good.

I wonder how many people will continue to use their much-loved Windows XP after Microsoft end support for Windows XP in April 2014?

I suspect even with the threat of viruses/malware there will be some die-hard XP users.

Yeah I downloaded it and played around with it for a few hours. I do like the new tablet friendly design for quick tasks but it can be awkward for more complex stuff.

There are still a lot of bugs in the software so I wouldn't recommend trying it out yet. Just wait until you need to buy a new computer after it's been released and you'll get it free anyway.

I hated Vista but wasn't hung up on XP. I have Win 7 Pro everywhere now and can't honestly see me replacing it. I guess that when I upgrade the hardware, Win 8 will come with the new stuff, after SP1 has resolved immediate post release bugs.
