Windows 7 nag

My Windows 7 RC is now telling me it is not genuine and provides a link when I try and open files (mainly images). But the link simply goes to a Microsoft search page with no info on it. I believe that the nag appears due to a change in hardware or updates and I need to re-activate but how the heck do I do that and do I get this happening every time the system is updated in some way ?

How can you nag about software which is a Release Candidate, you surely must be expecting problems?

Anyway if you're running Windows 7 Release Candidate (build 7100) 32-bit Ultimate, you'll probably need to reinstall it anyway. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970789

If you click the menu icon, and type "activate windows" into the search box, you can try re-activate windows. The link is actually located in the control panel. (Control Panel > System > Activate Windows)

A nag is a term for a pop-up which reminds you that you need to buy the product, not a description of my post !

Regarding the Microsoft link, I did read this article this morning but it seemed to refer to folders, not applications and so I wasn't sure it affected me but will take another look.

Yes, I remember looking for this on XP when I reinstalled it on a new motherboard but it wasn't in my menu. I'll have a look for it but I find the instructions very unclear. There is no mention of having to type in the search box - surely the link should take you straight to the relevant page ?

I am unaware of any instructions you have been told to perform, but they sounds wrong in any case. The Search Box I speak of is located on your Start Menu, and searches your PC...

You need to click this link, not a link on the internet...

I think this thread is getting a bit confused. Strangely, the message on my desktop that the software is not genuine has disappeared without me taking any action so for the time being there seems nothing else to do.

Even more strangely the nag now keeps re-appearing and disappearing periodically.
