  1. Apparently the FA Women's Cup, Ligue 1, Serie A and Bundesliga are football clubs
  2. Accrington Stanley are more popular than AC Milan, Celtic, Rangers, Manchester City, Arsenal, Juventus, Tottenham, Chelsea and Leeds
  3. Crystal Palace are more famous than Bayern Munich, Athletico Madrid, Ajax, Juventus and PSG
Seriously, did they poll ten drunkards in a pub?

YouGov is a total joke!
 
Not sure your assessment is correct. The results you see are based on polls. Which suggests the people polled have a different set of opinions than you.

Basically this. They have a database of people who have happily provided YouGov with all their demographic information; religious beliefs, sexual orientation, earning, education, where they live, favourite TV show, loads.
Then when you want a survey doing you can choose if you wish what demographic you want to gauge the views of, and that's your results.

So you could ask; "What is your favourite football team" of Hindu's aged over 65 who live in the Scarborough, or you can not stipulate any demographic and get a wider audience.

It all depends on the audience who answered the question really and the way the question is asked.

I've used YouGov for research and my audience I needed were politically engaged people across the whole UK.

It all depends who you ask, what you ask, who you ask it and what you asked before. You can get surveys to say just about anything.

Didn't Accrington Stanley feature in an advert ages ago? I don't think any of the others have.

Point 3 seems reasonable.

No, I don't watch football.

What do you mean by popular? How is this popularity measured?

For example, if they asked Joe Public for their favourite team you will get a whole different set of answers than if you asked members of all the supporters clubs.

I suspect what they did was say "name 10 famous football teams you have heard of" ask the right people (maybe non football watching females aged 45-65) and they may state their local team, their family's supported team, a couple of real biggies and then the ones they have heard a lot. The milk marketing board Acrington Stanley advert ran for years in the 80's so the name is in people's heads unless they have a reason to know others

I have Queen of the South stuck in mine from listening to the result sin my grandads house as he did the pools

I'm not surprised that Crystal Palace are more popular than all of the other clubs listed as they are a superb club.

Accrington Stanley's popularity has recently shot up since they signed a young central defender from Crystal Palace.

No bias here :D

It’s the opinion of someone. Nobody compiles these lists. It’s all automated. In any case, I don’t see any of those in the list you linked to apart from the Women’s League.

Think it just shows that YouGov have not taken out answers that don't relate to the question.

Considering the huge amount of data gathering I doubt it’s possible to add in enough enough filters. It’s a totally automated system so won’t even know if a response isn’t a football club.

Which brings the question as to why bother having data if the data is no good.
