Why Businesses Shifting to Facebook/Twitter?

I have read about social media marketing but why? Ali baba and amazon are the most famous wholesale portals. Are they also on facebook and twitter?

However not one of them has talked about any kind of strategy or how it can help with your business.

This is a good point! For some products or services Twitter/FB can be great, but it seems they're more for the celebrities in the world than actual businesses.
It's certainly an avenue worth exploring and trying out -- we've seen mixed results with social networking...

LinkedIn is good for doing research work or finding decision maker in a company.

Facebook and Twitter is for those companies who have products and services for general people and not for those who are into industrial sales. But they are good tools to create awareness, hype and launching new products.

Most the sub postcount 10 posts are likely to be spammers targeting a popular phrase.

But as I have posted many times, we have many businesses that are getting a great return via our Facebook page.

I think facebook works for what i call ladies sites or kiddies sites , but doesnt work for Building Corporations etc etc.

i hate facebook and twittering being honest but great for pushing links etc .

would i deal with a facebook company pretty unlikely as i see them as childish but thats just me , i am old and past caring

facebook allows your business another presence on the web, you can have business pages , fanpages etc

It does not matter if your business is totally local a facebook presence can take you to new customers that maybe do not use yellow pages

If you are looking at building a business to national or international level then facebook would be deemed vital as you can grow fanpages to whatever level you want, 100's , 1,000's or even millions. you can instantly communicate with this database on a one to one basis

Very large companies already have facebooks departments that interact with their customers/fans. This will become commonplace in the years to come

It is the instant gratification of the consumer when an offer pops right up there in front of them

Even if you are a building company your customers will be on there

Already there are many ecommerce sites on facebook that have thousands of fans that are interacting and buying from them

Within 3 years more will be sold on facebook than ebay/amazon/walmart/tescos put together. Whether its digital products or physical products they will be bought on facebook and facebook will be getting a %. Currently there are just over 600m registered users with over 350m active daily. they gained 100m users from July 2010 to Jan 2011 and are growing at 100m new users every 160 days or so at present.

This is just to big to ignore for any business as many of your local customers are on there now and obviously millions more that you can go after

I am probably one of the most 'pro' Facebook people on this forum but even I wouldn't go that far!
