Why are there so many online ink shops?

I don't really do SEO for anyone else anymore, but every now and then open up my SEO enquiry form.

Whenever I do I can almost guarantee that I will get enquiries from online ink shops wanting to rank for things like ink cartridges, toner cartridges, cheap ink, etc.

Anyone know why are there so many online ink shops out there?

Is it one of those industries where you've got a dozen or so big suppliers and everything else is white label and affiliate sites?

Too many people think it's an easy business to be in. There's a huge repeat market to build up a customer base and regular sales, that's the theory anyway . However, in most cases it's a busy fools game, lots of sales and little profit because of the vast competition. I see them come and go on a regular basis on eBay. I buy one set of cartridges and by the time I need a replacement they've gone pop and another new seller has taken their place as this months busy fool.

The tradional industry changed the marketing strategy and put more efforts on the online marketing business. It doesn't matter white label or affilate sites, as long as the core keywords ranked the 1st page on google, they have plenty methods to turn it into money.

The inks never last anyway. We thought it was a great idea, far cheaper ink at 50% off, then we used the cartridge and it ran out after 200 prints - oh dear.....

I have dealt with plenty in the past. It is mainly due to the margins available in the compatible market.
The product itself is cheap to buy, cheap to store and cheap to post out and if you have reliable compatible cartridges, you get a lot of repeat business.
But the market is really flooded now and there are some really good well established retailers around now so it will be a tough nut to crack. Good luck

@Hospitality_king, that's exactly the truth when we go back to the beginning, quality and price, what's your choice? If we can make a blance between the 2 staff, the same thing will happen again and again.

So if you choose price, you may bear in mind it may last not long as what you expected, if you choose quality, you may bargin with the supplier to give some discount but it should be reasonable.

One of the reasons why there are may online ink shops is the great demand on the market in which the users are buying online within their respective location.

when there is such of a thing, it may mean that the ink online business is really booming with lots of customers to get and lots of profits to make. And also maybe the business is not too capital-intensive and not too stressful
