Which Hosting company do you recommend?

Looking for a hosting company, preferably in the UK.
Who do you guys use/recommend.
 
Don't know about the techy peeps in here but I personally would recommend 34sp.com as very cheap for personal hosting package which is good enough in my opinion for small business use and their support is fab. Based in UK.

we use fasthosts and heartinterent, both will get slated for various reason, but my 10+ years have been good so far, yes they have problems but dont they all.

Vidahost - forgot to pay the renewal invoice. I sent them an apology straight away when I realised with payment and they were all 'Don't worry about it, it's all fine'.

Pick several contenders and ring their support lines at 5.45am on a bank holiday sunday morning. Hopefully a human will answer within 3 or 4 rings, just say "I'm not a client yet, but I wanted to test your technical support".

I did this before we signed with our hosting company and the guy said "Thanks for calling, its nice to hear from someone it's very quiet round here at this time in the morning. I'm in the office and the server rooms are next door. There are always two of us on shift 24/7 and we have software knowledge and all the tools and spares to maintain the servers. Once you decide to become a customer please call back and say Hi - my name's David"

Well we did, and we did! Now we know David is our best friend, ready to leap into action on our behalf at a moments notice. That's if we ever need him, which we haven't so far. Every hosting company needs a David.

I've been with them for 2 yrs now and they've always sorted everything out. Freephone telephone number, awesome support, and fast UK servers.

Give them a call or send them an email.

10/10 from me.

We use Donhost, although we joined in the days when they were independent and have since been taken over. We still get excellent service and (I believe) a robust network of their own, instead of in a massive shared data centre.

Rackspace get my vote, very good service and extremely good uptime which for us is very important :)

I was going to use Heart Internet, until I read this

Now I use United Hosting - they've been really good, support is brilliant. 34SP are also excellent and I have used them for years too.

Avoid Fasthosts at all costs - the support is lousy!

I have just moved from Fasthosts to HostPapa. Fasthosts took my site off line and locked my control panel because my bank would not pay them the £00.00 that fasthosts said I owed them, It took them a week to figure out what had gone wrong and release my control panel so I could move my domain else where.

I have read good and bad about many hosts and to be honest I think you just have to take a chance and pick one that you feel happy with, you can be sure someone will have bad things to say about the one you choose and other will have good things to say.

So far Host Papa have been OK

I have been with them for two years now and the support is excellent!
If something goes down, they will keep everyone posted on their blog. If you contact them, you will get a reply back within the hour during the day - which is essential for a web host. I would recommend them to anyone.

So i decided to go with vidahost.
I am using Prestashop for my site and sent over an email to them only to be told that they do not have MySQL5 and will have it by the end of November.

Kinda disappointed.

Looking at sp34 now.

Lets say i get hosting with sp34 now, and then come january i decide to move to vidahost, what is the process of moving? is it a hassle? am i tied into a contract with sp34 for 12 months?

All these people jumping in and recommending good hosts. No-one has asked what your requirements are and what your budget is. If you have a major e-commerce site, with lots of traffic then Rackspace. In general, you get what you pay for in hosting. If you are running a particular package like say xcart or magento, then you could do better with a host who specialises in these packages.

Not sure if how 34sp run their contracts but to swap would just be a case of backing up your files and database.

If your web hosting company uses cPanel then it's extremely simple to swap between two cPanel hosts.

Our Linux servers run the lastest PHP5 and MySql 5.

We have lots if users hosting their shops using Prestashop.

Depends on the hosting account. I have used them and it's all month by month (Never had a Dedicated server with them so don't know). I started on their basic hosting account then moved all the way up to a VPS. No issues. Your best calling them or emailing, they respond pretty quick and will let you know .

Pleased to say that whilst back in 08 we only had MySQL 4.1 for compatibility reasons, we now have a full complement of options including MySQL 4.1, 5.0 and 5.1 with 5.1 being default :D

I have used fasthosts for 4 years and its been a list of problems.
Still waiting for them to resolve the lack of access to my email accounts now for the last 7 days

yeah you're right. I just didn't get around to it. There problems have been relatively small until now. I have tried a few in the past and they also had there own problems.

but time to move on. Will do some digging. Having a look now at WebhostsUK

100% Hostgator. Cheaper, better and with amazing support.

Really cant recommend them enough, the value for money is great.

Out of curiousity, what makes Hostgator the best?

Sometime ago, Ecenica used to host a bunch of servers in the same datacentre complex Host Gator exclusivley use in Texas/Dallas, USA. It's now Soft Layer, but previously The Planet, and prior to that, EV1Servers.

We found page-load times a bit slow when compared with our UK web hosting servers. Over the years this got more and more noticeable. The time difference also hindered tech support at times.

They offer the same cPanel and Linux web hosting a lot of us run here on UKBF. I've never used HG so keen to see how we can offer the same service but on servers here in the UK.

Recently tried GoDaddy and it's easy to use and so far seems to be a great web host especially for those on a budget and they offer UK hosting.

I'm with Moonfruit and although a newby to all this, I found building my web site so easy and trouble free. They have different packages depending on the size of your business, and even have a free version. I registered my domain name through them, and they also give free Google Ad-Word vouchers.

There are lots of hosting company who are providing hosting.If yo go to Google and search you will get details of lots of company who are providing Hosting.
