missdetermination

Right its friday afternoon and I am feeling a little mardy:redface: , I havent been out socially much this year at all (I was due to go for the first time in ages a few weeks ago but my sisters husband decided to walk out so had a broken family in my home for the weekend instead!), and coupled with working all the time I am feeling a little bit sorry for oneself. Ihave taken up jogging to release some stress, but I was wandering what you all do in what little spare time you have to stop you from going crazy - especially home workers who dont necessarily see people during the day too.:D

I dont seem to recognize 'time off' as such....I spend a lot of time surfing the net and reading relevant forums....thinking of ideas....I feel stressed most of the time and dont seem to be able to chill out. I used to jog but then I had to have all the gear to do it....heart rate monitor, (even got my own treadmill and weights bench and step in the house), mp3 player. good music to jog to, proper bounce preventative underwear:redface: Eventually the thought of having to get all togged up...put me off doing it.....so trying to de-stress caused me stress  Well done you for coping at the weekend:)

hardest part of running is getting off yer backside and doing it!..maybe not!

I like to switch off computers and get away from anything resembling work. Which never happens.

The pub is a very welcome distraction though, no computers there!

I feel I went through that stage and had to make myself go out (thankfully have 2 dogs that won't have no for an answer, if it wasnt for them i dont think i would have moved from working and "surfing for working" - hence the get a life trauma....first thought was happy hour at the pub £2.00 a pint, but once the belly started getting wider I thought I had better find an alternative release. Then came the jogging idea but this really isnt helping the social eliment, which got me wandering what everyone else did....if there was a special club for lonely souls that would le me join!!:D

 Well done you for coping at the weekend:)
...Thank you, havent really got rid of them yet tho:(

I dance 3 times a week (ballet, tap, jazz). It's the only time my brain focuses on something other than the business.

This time of year, I enjoy lighting my fire, listening the logs crackle and vegging in front of brainless TV. Crikey, I live life on the edge!

I look after my family.
I cook I clean and I sleep.
Now I am mardy (I love that word).
Kidding - permanently jolly!

When I'm not working I'm house hunting and playing the penny whistle which I've been teaching myself recently.

I also like reading.

I'd like to excercise more but like someone said, it the getting up off my arse that's holding me back.

Whoa now...there's a time when I'm not supposed to be working?

New that I was doing something wrong!!

OK, it's not THAT bad, but I am a bit of a workaholic, and I've been burning the candle at three ends recently. Going to the cinema, watching TV, reading and writing are all work for me...and are all things I enjoy...so for example I don't switch off when I go to the movies...I break down and analyse whatever it is I'm watching...which usually annoys whoever I'm with.

BUT when I do manage to convince myself that I need some r'n'r I usually head to the pub or the gym, depending on the mood. Now I come to think of it, it's actually a bit sad.

When im not working I tend to think about work - not every good at switching off I know !!! lol

I usually go running, hill walking, take the car and drive for 200miles and pack the camera with photos of the Highlands !!! That sort of thing ! :D

Much of my 'downtime' revolves around the children (7,5 & 2) - I take Amelia to judo Monday morning before school, Wednesday - if I'm at home I knock off at 3.30 and take the 2 eldest to their swimming lesson.

Adult time - much revolves around our dining table - good food, good wine and good company.

Exercise - I always have great intentions - and exercise my mind thinking of excuses not to get off my butt and run in Windsor Great Park, or use the rowing machine / bike etc (we have a small and hugely underused gym at home).

Smashing tennis balls blasted at me by a machine or other players, writing music, cooking....gosh didn't realise that I was so boring.......

It's a difficult balance. Our day is design games, play games, design games, play games. So you'd think the last thing we'd want to do is play a game. But we do :)

After work, we like to get involved in the community on the Internet. In general as a game design company you do not see interaction with the end user, especially with the big game companies, whether it be a client or a consumer. We hope to change that.

Apart from sleeping, running.

Unfortunately, as that is also my business and where I gather most of my inspiration from, I do not really get much down time.

C'est la vie!

I'm a wife, mum, sister and daughter when I'm not working as a Virtual Assistant. My family is very important to me and I spend as much time as possible with my husband and son. My parents and sister now live within less than hour of me for the first time in twenty years, which we're all enjoying.

thank you all for all your replys....can i safely say to sum up that to run your own business, you have to be a "workaholic", "ni on alcoholic", "exerciseaholic" "foodaholic" and generally if you get anytime left over....we all get sleep?!!

....funnily enough not feeling so "mardy" today....after a 120 mile round trip to stafford to let off steam, changed my running shoes brought yesterday ( partner picked up the wrong size after i had tried my size on ?!!???! - dont ask!) and a couple of pint in the pub before a drizzly walk home....seems I am in the right places afterall....
