What Digital Marketing should I use?

Hi,

I run a professional cleaning company in Gloucestershire and I am looking to boost traffic and convert this traffic into sales. What digital marketing should I be using? I was thinking about Google/Facebook ads.

Thanks

Vinyl posters on the side of the van would work better. As would making sure everyone in the family wears 'Tom's Cleaning' sweatshirts.

As suggested, SM marketing isn't going to work for you. What you can do is offer something different to every other local cleaner - otherwise there is no incentiuve for anyone to change from their current service providers. And being cheaper isn't the answer either.

As others have said, social media marketing will probably be pretty ineffective if you're marketing to businesses. Most services such as yourself will focus more on search engine results - as that's where the majority of potential clients will be looking.
You'll need a good combination of offline and online marketing strategies. As someone above said, vinyls on your vans, etc. That's your offline marketing right there. That and business cards, leaflets, sending personalised offers to businesses/potential customers. Networking is another good idea, especially if you have those 'breakfast events' that we seem to have a ton of around here. Again, these are great ideas if you're promoting to businesses.

Online: Search engine optimisation (SEO) is key. You want to be ranked highly in the results so that those in need of your services come to you first. You may also want to consider business directories and local business forums, to expand your reach. Think of it as online networking. Where do businesses find one another? Probably not on Twitter or Facebook, that's for sure. PPC is great, but can quickly add up in terms of costings. There are plenty of ways you can advertise on the cheap using online methods. It doesn't all have to be ploughing money into paid advertising :) Good luck!

Oh and if you are marketing B2C then it is slightly different of course. Let me know if that's the case and I'll have a few other solutions for you. Potentially!

I would focus on Adwords and build up the content on your website to improve the conversion rate, which would in turn improve the SEO over time. Use social media if you have time to post regularly and write good quality content for posting out, but a dead social media account can reflect badly on a business.

I would keep things simple, there are a million and one things you can do with digital marketing.

Good luck!

Without knowing if theya re B2B or B2C it is impossible to state order of importance.

If it is B2C then social media should be up there, as in spending time or paying someone to spend time being active on social media and getting your clients to recommend you on social media.

Leaflets are superb for B2C but pants for B2B.

I suspect that as the OP rushed to get to 30 posts, then did an anchor text link drop (which was removed by a mod) that he didn't really want advice he just wanted to get his anchor text rich link drop in the post.

Which has exactly 0 value.

they are nofollowed :)

but as the saying goes, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

No follow links don't have 0 value as such, granted they don't carry PageRank, but they do have a value (place) in the overall link footprint.

They have no value, because it's a forum link, even if it's dofollow, the value of such link is so miniscule that it's not worth taking the time to register the account to post the link....

Many have said social media is no good but I have to differ on this one - 360 Cleaning Services are doing a pretty good job on their social media (I don't manage it, but I did help with brainstorming when they first began) - they're doing great and getting LOTS of work through social media too.

Maybe have a looksie and see what they're doing?

Because they have their facebook page they're getting lots of recommendations sent their way too!

Hazel, how did they get people to look at their facebook page in the first place? I agree once you have a good following and people recommending you can bring in work but just putting up FB adverts isn't going to work for Tom.

Who said anything about facebook ads - not me :)

They did this crazy thing called being sociable ;) They went on local facebook business pages and networking groups and actually chatted with people - they didn't use facebook as a selling technique, instead they just engaged and were social - it's like they were being social on social media ;) lol x

Exactly! The sociable thing is what works. Promoting yourself doesn't. All those marketing 'experts' saying you should post bazillions of times a day to SM sites are talking codswallop. But doing as 360 did is the perfect way to use SM. It's pity that most people don't subscribe the the same methods.

The adverts thing is because Tom said:
I was thinking about Google/Facebook ads.

Start with a low PPC budget and target only exact match queries that are most likely to lead to a conversion. Make sure you retarget all your website visitors on Adwords Display Network and Facebook by including a remarketing pixel on your website. Also, I suggest you try out Bing ads - the results might surprise you. In our industry there's less competition and we have a significantly lower CPA compared to Google Adwords.
