Wedding venue licensing.

I've recently been given the use of a stunning piece of land in the south of England. An ideal location for weddings with ample car parking etc. I've been thinking of using it as a wedding reception venue. As I currently run a marquee hire business, I'd be in a position to offer the full package.

I am unsure about the following;

What type of license I will need for the venue?

What limitations and regulations I would have to abide by?

Many thanks in advance

They are different per county, so the quickest way to find this is to get in touch with your local registras office. I know that one condition is that the building can have no religious element at all (found out the hard way when a cilet bought a church intending to have oit rebuilt on their grounds, but the registrar nailed it dead. Civil ceremonies must have no religious element.

The other thing that I think might hit you is that you have no building, so that is going to be a possible deal breaker. They have to actually inspect and approve a particular rom or rooms for the civil ceremonies to be carried out. If you only have a marquee, that could prevent it.

Anyhow, as I said, call the registrar, they will tell you off the bat.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting, I wasn't aware of the religious element issue with venues. The lack of suitable building does rule out the possibility of me hosting ceremonies, but I could still provide the venue for the reception. There's actually a local church within walking distance which could host the ceremony.

I'm aware I can get a temporary events license for 21 separate days of the year, which is more than I expect to have. So perhaps that would be sufficient. My main concern was that there would be a specific license required. Just seems suspicously too simple and straightforward to me!
