Please can you offer advice in re: a wedding piano start up in the Midlands (includes pro pianist, baby white digital grand and PA system). Should take no more than 30 seconds! If you have more than 30 seconds feel free to expand - all constructive criticism welcome :) Thanks in advance :D

1) ONLINE PRICING: All, none, or 'starting from' only (cautious of competitors)?

2) PACKAGE SALES (silver / platinum e.t.c.): Yes or No?

3) DISCOUNTS FOR START-UP REVIEWS: Yes or No (ethical)?

4) INCLUDE BABY GRAND AS STANDARD (USP): Yes or No Charge Extra)?

5) PROSPECTIVE PRICING (COMPETITION IS VARIED) from:

Ceremony £250 // Drinks Reception £250 // Wedding Breakfast £300

Ceremony & Drinks Reception £375
Ceremony & Drinks Reception and Wedding Breakfast £450

TOO MUCH - TOO LITTLE????

1) Yes - show your prices
2) OK if they exist - don't invent something
3) Nah
4) Do people buying your service value this offer?
5) Sounds OK

Focus on explaining what you are offering and communicating that. I'm presuming you are advertising on your website. Focus on driving traffic to your website. Don't worry too much about the competition.

Adjust everything as you need to as you learn from experience.

Best of luck.

Is there a call for this sort of thing? If so do you work with the MOC/DJ/Band or are you a stand along entertainer?

Only thorough market research will be able to answer these questions effectively...

Speak to the people who want your product. Go to wedding shows, talk to bride-to-be's... Join Facebook groups and talk to some too... Whatever. A lot of businesses fail to identify that it's not about what the owners think is good, or worthwhile, or a fair price... It's about meeting customer demands.

You might have a passion for your baby grand piano and think charging an extra £50 for it is worth it, they might not know or care for the difference and refuse to entertain that as an option.

Why don't you ask people on wedding forums? - it's a fair bet the vast majority of people on this forum aren't your target audience.

You also need to put together a proper market research questionnaire if you want meaningful responses to help inform your marketing strategy.

You also need to put together a proper market research questionnaire if you want meaningful responses to help inform your marketing strategy.

Now you are just being unrealistic.;)

When was the last time you saw a research questionnaire on this forum that would give any kind of useful results? All I ever see is people 'going through the motions' so they can tick the 'do market research' box.

Research design is a skill in itself and requires knowledge and experience.

Poor research is worse than no research.

Sorry for the tangent, I felt like a moan. :)

I would say definitely state your prices but it wouldn't it be better to state an hourly rate rather than per event type?

I have known some wedding ceremonies last 30 minutes and others over two hours.

Likewise the reception and wedding breakfast.

I would also state that the price covers a particular area and that outside this area you will have to add travel costs and expenses - just in case your world of mouth referrals take you far away from where you would ideally want to work.

A lot of venues will already have a piano so I would offer the piano hire as an extra. One issue with pianos is tuning - how will you deal with that both with the piano on site and the moving of yours - can you tune it yourself?
