Can someone recommend a good website designer. I would like a basic website build with SEO (4 pages max). I am thinking of a price in the region of £175 to £250.

Please let me know if I'm asking for too much.

Hi what do you mean by SEO?


Do you just want the designer to make sure the coding is as clean a possible using strict standards to make it easy for google to spider (in theory this should always be done and not charged as an extra).

Or do you need some one to read through all your content and making it easier to read whilst inserting as many of your chosen keywords/phrases as possible.

Then inserting a few blog articles around the web, and resubmitting to the most common search engines every month?

All major factors of SEO with dramatic differences in cost.

Why 4 pages max. How do you know 4 pages is the best option until you have written the content, done your market research and decided which marketing methods you want to use.

SEO for what? Do you have a set of keywords and a target audience.

Will you be updating the site, adding new content?

Do you have hosting? Do they support PHP?

You could do the job yourself for a lot less using a site builder.

So rather than set a price, it might be better to provide a brief detailing the aim of the site, prospective clients and type of content.

A designer wil also want to know if logos and images are supplied.

I'd say (personally), if you're expecting visual/graphic design work to be done from a brief (e.g. you are not supplying extremely strong input on look/feel plus logo, etc), then you will be somewhat restricted by your budget.

You will get someone willing to have a go for this sort of budget, but will you get a professional job? I doubt it.

Make sure you see examples of website made by whoever agrees to take on the job then ask yourself would you be happy with a website that looks like that. Next, see if you can find this website in the search engines using the keywords that it has been optimised for.

If it is done properly, there is a lot of time and work that goes in to building a professionally designed website and then optimising it (SEO).
That is why they say you get what you pay for.

I think the prices I was quoted was for basic SEO with URL's. This should be fine as I just want a website to put on my brochures and emails I send to clients. The site is for a bookkeeping business and with this sort of business emails, brochures and recommendations are the best marketing tools.

However, you do need one which looks professional and gives the right first impression!

I'm not saying it's impossible to get that for a lower fee - although I would suggest it is less likely.

As the customer, it's your right to give your designer a little shake once in a while, but I wouldn't expect to give your designer any grief for £200, they'll just walk taking any work they've done for you.

But the website needs to earn that position at the top - and a 4 page £200 site just isn't going to make it.

In any case, as a new site you aren't even going to make a dent in the ranking for at least 6 months unless you have a very specific niche.

Well I don't expect to make the top pages for that price, and its not a need for my business. With bookkeeping emails, calling and recommendations tend to work best. I guess the more clients who view the site the better the chances of it getting into the higher rankings.

That is a factor but not the biggest one by any means, and the amount of traffic you would need to get for Google to use this as a factor to make any difference would have to be immense.

Think of the amount of traffic that ebay gets for example, what chance would you ever have of getting that much traffic?

If you expect most people to find the website by specifically going to your website address then that is find, if you want people to find you when doing a generic search for your field then you will need some decent SEO.

If you just want to be in the search engines so that someone will find your website by typing your company name or domain then that is not too difficult at all.

Billie - you'll be lucky enough to get a web site for that price, let alone been indexed or rank for anything on google.

You see anyone can be a web designer, the tools are freely available. But it's the difference between some one whose ok at DIY and someone who is a shopfitter by trade. Leagues apart.

I wish you luck with your site, but I expect your going to have a bad time with your first site, as you say your not expecting anything from it, so I can see little point in damaging your brand.

I didn't think page views had anything to do with google result rankings (SERPS). I assumed it was all down to well placed links, the text of these links, and the relevant content on the pages the links originate, and lastly the quality of the text on your pages.

It does make a small difference, as does your bounce rate, or the amount of time people spend on your website before they click away to another website. If your bounce rate is really high, that means that people are leaving your website very quickly after opening it, Google takes this to mean that either your website isnt about the subject that you have used in the keywords or your website is not just as useful as one where people spend a lot of time on your website before they go elsewhere. It will have an effect on your rank, but not as much as your basic Use of Keywords in the onpage optimisation and the number of relevant backlinks you can get pointing to your website.

If you have Google analytics on your website you can view your bounce rate and so can Google, but im led to believe that they and Alexea both have access to this information anyway, albeit probably a little less accurately if you dont have Analytics installed.

Of course the toolbar will also feed them back data too on top of this.

I had made with web designers an e-commerce website for £3800 and another in the way for £2000

Check templates online and for 250 you can find full ready to go ok website and nicely designed

After that do a search for open temples.

These templates i bought one of them for my wife to sell books where only images and description is need and simple purchase database is needed.

To be honest fai, it was hard to understand what you wrote. I had to read a few times, and finally settled on template website for 4k (as ecommerce was irrelevant to this thread)

So forgive me if I had problems with your grammar (spelling mistakes I can understand and decipher), but if your not clear, what do you expect.
