Hi guys,

We have recently implemented our new mega menu on Shopify (it has taken a lot of custom code). I have customised the default menu function and I didn't want to install a mega menu app for speed and performance reasons. Anyway, I would love some critical feedback. Do you find it easy to navigate? Is there anything you think would be beneficial to add from a customer's point of view? You can see it here. https://storiesflooring.co.uk/

I look forward to any feedback guys

To be perfectly honest I'm not sure it helps. Unless you already know what you want the menu system is very confusing.

Your options are more like filters than menu items. For example if I want lacquered engineered medium oak I can't select this from the menu. If I do choose one of these I can't then filter to see the matching products.

This is a much better system:

Their function is exactly the same. The menu links are just activated filters, or have I misunderstood what you mean mate? https://nimb.ws/BRA8G4

When you make a menu selection on their site you go to a page with a set of filters similar to the menu options. Yours has the filters but waaaaay down the page and you have lost all the icons. The main menu isn't sticky which means I've got to scroll all the way back up to the top to look for something else.

I did a project a while back for a business that had a multistep form that helped them find the right product. A far better UX/UI.

Mega menus can work but only at a top level - yours is far too complicated. Look at M&S:

See how you just have the clothing/product type in the megamenus then all the filters on the target page.

Same on screwfix:

If you want to keep your megamenu you need to change the layout/filters on the target pages.

I clicked on 'shop by room' and it showed me that your website is not optimised for mobile. Half the screen appears so, then I had to zoom out halfway down the page.

I would say you need to spend some time focusing on categorisation, the menu can be simplified. As @fisicx mentioned, maybe better to give the main categories (laminate, wood etc) them give the search/filter options when they land on the actual page rather than from the menu.

Too much writing on your homepage. Replace it by showing off the variety of different floors you have.

Utilise the home page and provide the users with easier/more ways to find what they are looking for.

It looks great, but there's too much information on the navigation menu as said by others here.

The menu can be simplified by the wood type, or even the colour.

Simplicity will help ALL your customers.

Then have the online catalogue and filter section on the main page.

At the moment, the online catalogue is the navigation menu.

    Dunelm's catalogue works well:

I also had some problems on mobile when I was on your site, so ensure that it's completely functional for mobile as it most likely will be the device your customer uses.

My suggestion is prioritise a compare feature on the catalogue page - may not be important to all uses, but some of your customers will spend a lot time comparing!

Make it easier for them, not harder.

I think it looks great! I love the colour scheme, font, and navigation. A few pointers would be making sure the text is aligned to the left, it is a bit spaced right now in your paragraphs which might affect readability for users. Also, have you keyworded your product names? As it might be worth shortening them if possible, I am not a flooring expert though haha!
