Hi,
Thanks to @fisicx trade theme (and help along the way) and the excellent SEO course from @Tin i have managed to get myself a load of leads when customers search for terms i would like to be found.
If you could spare any time to look at it and give me some honest criticism and where i could improve it would be very much appreciated, thanks!
My website is https://www.simonportillo.co.uk

Title is too wide, it goes all the way across the screen and cuts the phone number in half.

email me link isn't capitalised and leads to a form, not an email - I prefer to email rather than fill in forms so I know they've arrived. Maybe add your mobile number so people can text you.

Honest customer reviews section talks about CRB, not reviews.

maybe a picture, it's a very personal service with CRB and everything else, but is the person that turns actually you or someone you've subbed the work out to.

All fairly minor, but could help.

Thank you for taking the time to post Nick. Much appreciated!

I've removed my address from the header.

I've changed "email me" to contact. I did have my email address on the website and received numerous unsolicited emails (still do). I don't mind general junk, or do you want to buy stuff. But i have had quite a few pretending they want me to price up work and when i reply they say they have attached a plan from a builder only to find out its a virus! I found this droped with the form and also makes them go to the hassle of finding out a local address to submit. I figured with a local telephone number it also gives people the option to call that (if genuine of course)

Honest customer reviews section talks about CRB, not reviews.

I am not sure what you mean about this Nick. MY testimonials page https://www.simonportillo.co.uk/testimonials/ just lists customers comments.

maybe a picture, it's a very personal service with CRB and everything else, but is the person that turns actually you or someone you've subbed the work out to.
All fairly minor, but could help.

That's a great idea, thank you!

near the bottom of the front page it says

"✅Honest customer reviews. Are you happy leaving tradespeople unattended in your property? You might have to if you can’t take time off work. If it helps, you can see my CRB disclosure before deciding who to hire."

I would keep the address and phone number, but just spread across 2/3 lines, rather than 1 long line.

Ah yes, sorry Nick i misunderstood. Maybe i should replace "honest customer reviews" with "Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checked" perhaps?

I am having problems achieving this. It spans the full width. I have followed @fisicx advice of when amending check mobile first followed by kindle then last of all desktop. The full address actually displayed fine on mobile just a bit of a mouthful on desktop screen.

Thanks again!

I think you need to make the top of the page more visual - maybe an image or two. It feels a bit too much like a yellow pages listing for me and my millennial attention span tends to tune out! That's a terrible thing and you should be able to sell yourself with words but I think today images are almost compulsory on first glance.

I'd have phone number - email address and trading address right there visible on the top section of the landing page.

The phone number should be click to call.

I know you have had issues with spam bots and your email address but that is easy to fix - install the plugin "Email Address Encoder" and the bots fail.

Your website copy is all about YOU at the top of the page - it reads I I've I I've .... and to make it worse you then tell me ( you are unlikely to receive paperwork etc etc ) about problems I get if I'm stupid !!!

But it also leaves me confused
"I’m the reliable electrician Cardiff home and businesses hire"
The word hire leaves me wondering are you looking for sub-contracting work rather than direct work.

If you are looking for sub-contracting work - I think the website is possibly a waste of effort.

If you are actually looking for direct commission of domestic or commercial work - then you need to be clearer.

You need to sell the problems you solve not you.

The problems you solve are too far down the page ...

    You solve these problems
    - Tripping RCD troubleshooting
    - Garden lighting design & installation
    - Electric shower installation
    etc

    I'm not copywriter but

If your RCDs keep tripping and you have no idea why, I can get you sorted.
Do you need a well illuminated garden, we can design and install your dream solution.
Broken Electric Shower - never fear, we will get you clean again in a jiffy.

    Get the general idea.

But don't overload it, pick your most profitable 'lines' and work on them, and if it really is 'any domestic or commercial problem' then perhaps say just that.

I would say that perhaps it would be more efficient for you to concentrate on what you are good at ( electrical work ) and engage a copywriter that understands online marketing.

Thank you for posting Nathan. You are the second person to mention images. Will do.

Alan, thank you so much for taking the time to write that very useful post. All noted. Much appreciated. Do you think the home page would be more suited to an "about" page or just carp?

I would definitely include a nice image or slider at the top of the page. I think the testimonial section is quite good for the user and quite informative

Thank you posting. Much appreciated. I need to speak with @fisicx about an image/slider top as i think the theme was developed for text, but yes, that would look good.

Glad you like the testimonials page - i've got jobs off the back of that. Some customers commented they, spotted them and then take a look at the Google reviews too.

No, don't add a slider to the top of the page. They might look pretty but they are ineffective.

^ 100% no sliders - ever ever ever. Although and image of some form, even if it is just a header logo say styled as a plug gives a visual clue. Visual clues are important as they are recognised in a fraction of a second, and it is well know you have less that 3 seconds of attention on a new visitor grasping what you do.
