Website Legalities

Hi

I am close to opening my online store which sells various sporting items. Is there anything my website must legaly contain? e.g a terms and conditions section, copyright, any disclaimers etc?? i have a page regarding refunds and shipping info, contact details but thats it.

Not sure about the exact legalities (I am not a legal expert), but we do run and manage a number of on-line stores.

I believe it is good practice to clearly display details of shipping Info, contact details (including a phone number & address), and terms and conditions. I believe that it is also a requirement to display your company reg number and VAT number (if you are a registered).

gey our name and address on there,. all contact details, VAT and registered company number (if Ltd) T&C, privacy/security policy is nice, but not legally required- just make sure that your T&C's abide by the intricately weighted in favour of the consumer DSR regulations!

Probably a good idea also to have a solicitor look-over your T&Cs in context with your site and the service you offer.

Hi there

I'd recommend using simply docs, wwwdotsimply-docsdotcodotuk. I have an online shop and this website is a great source for everything you need, you register for about £35 then you have unlimited access to all the docs you need. I have t's and c's and privacy policy from there.

Agreed with the above, but be sure to include a privacy policy as well. Nothing extraordinary, but essential for all business websites.

If you process payments on your site you should also check with any compliance policies that your payment processor has on things that need to be displayed on your site, as they may revoke or suspend your payment procssing facility.

We've also found that, generally, customers tend to shop more on sites that have visible postage fees, returns and aftercare policies.
