Voice artist - costs?

We have a small software IVR which had some prompts recorded ages ago. They sound a bit naff and I'd like to replace them; looked up a few professional recording artists to do them but the costs seem really high (£400+) a bit much for a side business, considering it can't be more than an hour's work.

I only need about three prompts done. Any recommendations?

We can get them done (properly & professionally) for £30. You're meant to be using our own IVR but you don't need to - they're just MP3 files).

Colleague of mine is a comedy agent, but my brother also has a friend who does this, so I could ask? If thats any help? Hes done tv ads, actually appeared in them - not sure what he charges

From what I can see professional voice artists demand quite a bit of cash - I guess there's more to it than the time spent recording. For an advert or big corporate usage I could justify it but not for a phoneline that's called once or twice a day..

I had expected £50ish so voipfone seems well worth researching.

I've used Ben from Evoiceovers a few times now, a professional radio/TV guy, very quick response and very affordable.

We use two professional voice artists, one male and one female. You can hear them both using different styles in the online panel.

We can do it cost effectively because we order hundreds of them and have a pre-negotiated deal with the artists.

You type in your message (s) - up to 200 words - and provide any pronunciation instructions.

They get an automated email from us, know exactly how to set their microphones, which vice and intonation and they receive an automated payment - so for them it's a doddle compared with doing one off voiceovers.

You get the files back by email usually within one working day.

If you're going down the route of using the popular VOs (Emma Clarke, Greg Marston etc) then yes, they will charge a large sum.

There are those of us who work in radio, but who also take on voiceover work as an extra income who would be happy to talk to you

Voice over fees can vary, absolutely.

It's all to do with useage. But if you shop around you can get great deals from professional artists like myself.
