VAT MTD Manual Filing

Is there a simple package or platform that allows people to submit their VAT returns for MTD?

I know most online accounting packages offer this and there are some other services tied to third party offers e.g. banks, but, as there are still lots (too many) people who are not using these and still using spreadsheets, quill & parchment etc I would have thought that there was a demand/opportunity.

Typical, I can't find anything, make a post and then start finding them!

That's the first in the search, but, I assume it is tied to your anna money account, so, not viable if you don't have their bank account.

You need to search for VAT Bridging Software. This acts a a bridge between your reconds on a spreadsheet and the VaT filing hub.

There are a few providers out there. Some might start off as free, others have a cost. I've used Absolute Accounting's VAT filer in the past, which does have a small charge, and can thoroughly recommend it. I have no call for it now but do use some of Absolute's other software. No connection with them other than as a satisfied user. Link here

If you're looking for a free forever bridging solution for Windows, Mac or Linux that works with Excel (or OpenOffice in XLS format) or plain CSV data then 100PcVatFreeBridge is a very good fit.

Unlike other "free" solutions it is really free forever (optional donation to charity of your choice or direct to support the product). No need to register or sign up and no need to upload your data to a third party website:

As author, I'm obviously biased but 1000s of happy users and plenty of independent reviews on TrustPilot:

Once setup, it is actually easier to use than the old manual web filing method as there is no need to dig out your login credentials and two factor authentication each time you file.

Here you go you'll find a full list here (just filter it to bridging software)

I use the "Simple-MTD-VAT-Filer" software by Embedded UK Ltd.

The software costs £35.00 and that's it - no additional fees.

I have programmed my book-keeping software to generate a CSV file with the VAT return data. This MTD software reads the file and submits the return. Could not be simpler!

    Hi Cabin Fever
Do you mind if I ask which bookkeeping software you are using?

Hi B2 Bookkeeper, I wrote my own software for our book-keeping. But to use the MTD software that I mentioned, you just need something as simple as a text file with the nine values for the VAT return, separated by commas. Or, even easier - you can simply enter those the figures directly into the MTD software and then hit send!

Yes, check into my tax digital by Portico.

    Works very smoothly.

Just thought I would update this topic and say that I have just used this software and it did a nice, quick & clean job.

Good! When I found this, I had tried a few by that point and one (called Anna I think) stopped offering the service or went out of business. Then I found this one. I was so pleased with it.

Oh, lol, you meant the other one (100PcVatFreeBridge). Sounds like it does a very similar job as My Tax Digital by Portico and works the same way. (They have several different options, though, so it may not be instantly obvious.) Yes, faster than the old way, oddly enough.

    Good.

Also, I am worse re what you wrote before and then apparently removed). Years ago, on a different business forum, which still used only email, I would post a question and then I'd reply with an answer because while typing, the answer often worked itself out of my brain into my consciousness. :D That sometimes really annoyed some people, but I didn't do it on purpose. It's basically how you have conversations in real life, I suppose.

I've used Portico's free My Tax Digital since MTD VAT became mandatory and it's worked flawlessly.

I do sometimes leave my VAT to the very, very last minute so have had more than one scare when it warns on say a Saturday night that files with a deadline of Sunday may not be uploaded until the next working day but in fact they always seem to actually upload them the same day.

lol, I was about to reply when I saw this.

As you say, there are loads of bridging tools to allow spreadsheets to be filed.

You are not however supposed to use pen and paper as there has to be a direct link between the source record (the spreadsheet) and the final filed return
