Unsure about an idea

Hi all,

Im toying with an idea of adding to my current activities, it's basically a forum for people to air their views - I know it's not new and I am not expecting to make any money from it, it's just something I want to do.

Is such site possible in terms of using wordpress or can anyone recommend any other software more suited??

Sorry for the niavity but aren't that familiar with this type of software

There are some tools to establish a forum, such as Comm100 Forum (http://www.comm100.com/forum/hosting.aspx), is that what you are looking for? Hope helpful for you.

A lot of big companies in the IT market use vBulletin for using forums. You can too have a look into it if that suits.

Personally I think IPB is the best option but the background software is largely irrelevant. Starting a forum is very hard to do. They work on momentum, people sign up and join in on the discussion when they see that's what other people are doing.

If you don't have a community ready to go and create a bit of initial activity you'll find it very difficult to get the ball rolling and get members. Ofcourse you could create 20 dummy accounts and talk to yourself for a few weeks and fake it.

Would you sign up to a forum that looks empty? I wouldn't.
