I'm old enough to remember the last London meet up, I think around 2005/6, and it was a great success.

It's fascinating to put faces to forum names, but the best part was the talks given by a couple of prominent forum members, on SEO and PR. Very interesting stuff that I can recall even now.

Wow, someone remembered that. It was 2006 and it was me talking about SEO and Andy from 10Yetis talking about PR. Yes, it was a packed room and a great evening too and it was Duane Jackson who pulled it all together... dem were the days :) Well done Duane.

Would you be interested in meeting fellow UKBF's in REAL LIFE?

We are looking at organising an evening networking event in London during August/September (restrictions allowing).

The venue would either be in the West End or City, close to public transport, and would run between 6-9pm. The format is to be finalised, but we would imagine it would involve a short contemporary and relevant presentation, quick introductions and a lot of socialising.

The reason we are looking at London is due to the number of members in the region. The longer term plan is to run events regionally, but we want to test the water.

So we can gauge interest, please participate in the poll - we will keep it up for a few days.

Not sure really, I've probably got a big enough business card collection already.

    Too many cars
    Too many traffic lights
    Too many roundabouts
    Too many buses
    Too many taxis
    Too many cyclist
    Too many buildings
    Too many people

The too many people includes most of my friends, and everyone else (including those in other countries) goes there at some point.

Many of the buildings are worth looking at.

Then there are the restaurants, museums, art galleries ........

    Sausages in the oven
    Bacon under the grill
    Beans in the microwave
    Scrambled egg in the saucepan
    Mushrooms in the frying pan
    Toast in the toaster
    Tea in the teapot

2nd and 3rd frying pans for hash browns, fried bread, etc.

It's all about multi tasking, timing and using the correct equipment

All sounds a bit complicated. I just sit at the table and wait for the wife to bring me my breakfast.

    Breakfasts are like BBQ's

There is an art to it.

If I left it to my wife the sausages would be undercooked, bacon burnt, soggy mushrooms, hard fried eggs, dry toast, cold beans - It's all in the timing

Plus, I wouldn't be able to say I cooked it, you tidy up afterwards :)

Between Stratford-upon-Avon and Shipston-on Stour, about 25 minutes from Leamington down the Fosse

We would have driven through your part of the world yesterday. We drove down the Fosse to the Rollright Stones. Lovely drive. The stones struck me as a bit unimpressive - but things that age alwyas do (even Stonehenge looks best from a distance). It was nice to see the setting of a kids book both I and my kids loved.

We found a large group there. My wife to talking to one of them and it turned out they were mostly a group that "rejected the official narrative". I did not stay to find out exactly what they rejected.

You should call in at Compton Verney too, that's just of the Fosse and a lot closer to you.

Thanks for the tip. Looks interesting. We are planning to do trips to see things around here as it is a new part of the country (I cannot recall going anywhere around here other than Stratford except driving through) for us and its my older daughter's last long summer holiday.

@fisicx I used to be an avid reader of The Register, but how can I trust anyone why advocates grilling what should be a fryup and leaving out the fried bread and adding hash browns to it?

I have acquired a taste for black pudding over the last few years. It seems to have been everywhere recently (especially in Cheshire).

    In central London.

I have checked and you will not need a Covid passport to come to it!

I don't 'do' central London. But have fun anyway!

There comes a time in life and/or there comes an epiphany that tells one to change one's attitude to life and dealing with others. That happened to me on a train from Cologne to Berlin when I was in my early 40s. I had a perfectly good seat booked, but the train was filled with so many East Europeans (The Wall had just come down!) some carrying furniture and one woman with a large basket filled with live chicken - so I just could not get to my seat. I ended up, all the way there, sitting on the loo!

Since then I avoid public transport like the plague that it is!

And like public transport, I avoid the Sout-East of Englandshire. Also like public transport, it smells and is overcrowded, overpriced and badly run!

I quite like public transport and took the train yesterday. I prefer the train to driving. It happens that without booking I had a table on both trains from Dawlish to Birmingham. The internet connection was a bit slow in some places, but that's because it depends on mobile phone operator coverage.

I am thinking of going to London at some stage to meet up with various people and could slot this in as well.

    Did someone say "beer" ?:)
My first business (a music shop) was rescued by beer!

We opened in '79 and for three months I sold nothing. Good marketplace location, good stock, drums, guitars, synths, stuff like that - but not one sale of anything at all. Not a guitar pick or a sax reed. Nothing!

Then I had a brainwave - beer! Free beer at all times!

I bought Ottweiler Pilsner wholesale at DM7 for 20 half-liter bottles and had the crates stacked up in the shop. At 35 Pfennig (about 14p) a bottle, it was a brilliant and cheap investment.

You would be amazed at how young male rock musicians react to the idea of free beer. Think of a warhorse stirring at the sound of a bugle! The effect was electric! The shop was filled at all times and soon drum kits and synths, guitars and amp-stacks were flying out of the door.

We were able to buy our own place (that I still have today) within a few months.

All thanks to the power of beer!

I worked in an office in the Netherlands in 78/79. It had a well stocked fridge and supplied free coffee and soft drinks. We weren't allowed to open the beer in the fridge until the office closed at 5pm. Several people worked unpaid overtime whenever it was necessary

Was any date ever set for this get together. I'm in if in London.

I have been planning a Resolver-Live with Q&A. and 1:1 advice sessions. A UKBF one could include panel discussions on questions from the floor as welll as 1:1 meet ups/advice. It would be great to meet up those we have known over the years on here.
