Two partners in business contract

If one of the partners leaves the business, what is the max term you can impose in the contract clause?

Which would mean that the other partner can not work for any competition or similar business. (Such as 6 month’s)

Writting in the contract at the minute, neither have signed yet. What is the UK law on this, do you know if there is there a maximum term?

Don't be too restrictive. A court can find a restriction invalid when you try and enforce.

I've seen 3 month ones, have a standard 12 month one myself that is restricted to part of the role only - and the jobs that prevents people taking is less than 1% of the jobs available.
