Disclaimer: I am not a web developer

My dev said to me today my Wordpress AMP plugin was being a pain, when it needs updating it knocks my appointment booking sytem offline.

I didn't know what to say when he said "Surely you don't need your AMP plugins when your website is mobile responsive?" apart from the top stories carousel which really I don't need for local SEO as my target client base is UK nationwide

My site speed has taken a hit as I've got video loading in the background (should be removed today) but my rankings have actually skyrocketed in the last 2 months.

Several sources have said I've got far too many plugins in place, I can get rid of 2x AMP plugins off the bat. I don't really think my blog is classed as a news source as I only post about major changes in Google once a year.

    Thoughts guys n gals?

Bin it now. AMP has had it's day and is now mostly ignored.

Had a look at your site. Aaaaaargh! No wonder your developer is complaining. Unless they built it for you in which case they should be horsewhipped. Google says 33/100 on performance.

Get rid of everything and stop using that dreadful grid. 1.5Mb of third party scripts! 11 font request totally 0.5Mb!

Tried to call you the other day but nobody answered the phone. Maybe I've got an old number.

AMP is rubbish, largely hated and in most cases, not needed.

So basically you are right, if it's causing problems, just get rid of it altogether. As long as your website can be used and read on mobile devices then that's fine.

I'd go further and state that I'd be surprised if AMP is even still a thing in the next two years.

Just search online and you'll find tons of content about how awful AMP is and why website's shouldn't even bother with it.
