The number one tip would probably be to produce quality content on a regular basis, however you probably need to find an audience first.

If this is a sample of your ability to express yourself and engage an audience, I'd say give up the idea or be prepared to have a lot of tumbleweed blowing through your blog

I am in agreement on this one, to blog you need to be able to hold a decent conversation, with yourself, for others! Yet keep it interesting for all.
