www.tillybalou.com was our old web addy ... long story short we lost it for the princely sum of £4 and the company who own it won't let me have it back.

As most of you know I haven't a clue about how webby stuff works :redface: ... does anyone know how its being used and why they would want to keep it :| ... just out of interest really ... cheers again guys ~x~
 
They are probably in the same line business as you Denise and will try and outwit you that way, or they may have a similar name as yours as it is quite unique isnt it. Although I've just done a domain search and its registered to someone in Guan Dong and becomes available in November this year,although you own the .co.uk one.

Ive tried but it seems to timing me out taking so long to load.oops got it, yeah theyre selling fake degrees from China.

Keep hold of your .co.uk one and advertise that one from now on, just change any headers and footers you have on your paperwork to reflect that. Not a lot you can do with the .com one now.

This is where I found it, there may be another domain name you can buy if you fancy it, personally I wouldnt bother.

How did you manage to lose it? I thought there was a 6 month period in which you have to renew it before it is up for grabs by anyone.

Hi Sanj ... I don't know if it was 6 months ... but basically when we lost the house I didn't have internet access or a base for a while and had taken the online store off line just leaving all the about us and stories and collections etc with a message saying we hoped to be back online soon.

Also during that time the fasthosts email addy had become riddled with spammers ...

The company I had registered with 5 years earlier had joined forces with an american company whose addy I didn't recognise, hence I just deleted their emails without opening them :redface: ... I believe it sold for £4 ~x~

Unlucky there mate. I don't think there is really anything you can do unless you hold the trademark over the name.

Just make sure you set your other domains to auto renew. :)

They contact you give you 14 days and then theres about 45 days till it drops back into circulation.

Its gone now, you need to think of a new name :(

It's OK ... it's been gone for over a year now ... I thought I might have been able to sneak it back but they renewed it in December :rolleyes: ... bloody was an expensive lesson too :rolleyes:

I registered .co.uk but didn't use it for my current Mr Site site as I wasn't sure whether they would keep it if ever I moved on. That's why I just made up a daft long one for now :D

It was just out of interest really as to why they would want such a daft made up name LOL :D ... and what they were using it for.

I believe at first they had some strange Japanese porn sites linking from it which was pretty embarrassing as over the years we've sold thousands of products with that addy on :eek:

Luckily a google seach on Tilly Ba Lou finds us pretty high up now too.

Its kinda quirky for a name thats maybe why,

You never know they may let it drop in the future, but you wouldnt want it back would you

As you had it on a store, they make have bought it to try and get you to pay to get it back
The domain expires the 12th of December, so if they don't renew, it will become available about the 1st week of february. You could submit an offer to buy it from them.

No ... I only set this one up in the last few weeks ... after losing house, workshops etc then losing tillybalou.com through my own stupidity I kind of lost heart (and the plot :D) for a while. ~x~

Oh, they should not have such a lovely name:( - it belongs to Denise, the real Tilly Ba Lou, how sad you lost it.

I hope you get it back.

I will tell you exactly why they registered it.

People like this calculate the estimated traffic of dropped domains (a domain allowed to become available again) just like yours.

They would think along the lines of, "If this site gets 50 visits a week and at least a couple of CPC click per week then over the course of a year I would earn more than the registration cost"

Do this with a few thousand domain names and you have yourself a decent little earner.

They would have some decent software that would search for domains of worth that are nearing expiry and would then pounce when/if domain is dropped.

In addition just like a previous post comment, the cream would be people making offers to buy back their old domain for a good fee.

Hey guys ... Long time no see ... How you doin' :D

I have just looked up tillybalou.com and the site I looked at says it's available :eek: ... can one of you clever peeps just check this out for me and tell me how's the best way to grab it back (if it is free of course) :) x

tillybalou.com is indeed now available again but you won't get it for free, you will need to pay the domain registration fee for the domain (per annum). 123-reg is £9.99 but Godaddy will do it for £7.48 (£7.37 plus £0.11 ICANN fee).

Only buy it if it's worth something to you and your brand...

Hya G ... wierd how it's come free all of a sudden when it was registered with that company for a year :| ...

Do you remember who I did .co.uk with ... should I do it with them :) x

Your .co.uk is registered with Fasthosts who charge £9.49 + vat for the .com... Best to go with an american company for .com as they will be a lot cheaper.

You should all know better than to have this conversation on here. If I were in a nasty mood i'd have popped over to a 123 reg and swiped it from under your noses. If you want it, register it now.:)
