Does any one else yearn for the old days when not a single word of the budget was known to the public before it was announced in parliament , and any suggestion of a leak of infirmation was a resignation matter?

Pre announcements are just spin to take the sting out of things, just the same as discovering hidden things a few days later, in reverse, softens the blow to some extent. Not sure when it started.
    Very recently, I would suggest.

Yes - the Speaker of the House! In fact, he said so - and quite firmly!

Whatever the budget brings, it will be more compounding of old mistakes. More belief in magic economic theories we know to be wrong. More copying of the US in one glorious exercise in groupthink! More hoping-against-hope that inflation will be beguine and transitory and yet will melt away all that nasty debt! More blatant denial of stark and unpalatable facts that are staring us all in the face!

Yes! It's just carefully selected drip feeding now. Thankfully I'll be missing most of it as it's my board meeting tomorrow so I won't know the full release until after my shareholders have grilled me about my own budget :eek:.
