Good morning,

I am planning to take on a contractor to do live shows for my company and my question is - how do i make sure that everything is done correctly on my side? I have organised employers liability insurance just so i'm covered in case of any claims.

How do i make sure that the contractor carrying out the job is self-employed or has a company? How do i pay the person to make sure that my expense is deductible? Is invoice the best way? What if the person lies and tells that she is self employed and I pay her the money via invoice (e.g. Paypal)?

Thank you

They are a contractor. They send you an invoice. You pay them. Everything after that isn’t your responsibility. Makes no difference if they are self employed, a company or declare their earnings.

Well you could have a read through the gov website I would also make sure you have full H&S plans in place and they understand them. For me before I did any of this I would want to know what they have been doing and who they have worked for so far, no point in getting a contractor in who is totally unsuitable
