signed up a few months ago..just get bombarded with emails for massive construction orders..river piling, stadium construction. Jobs that you have to send a written proposal for and even then you won't get it because i'm sure its all tied up by some of the UK's biggest companies.

It is interesting...I wonder whether after all the screw ups they are finally going to stop using the various 2 or 3 companies they have used in the best....

Just as an opener I am more than happy to quote 60% of the best price they get charged for the next computer based project

I agree it seems a little pointless for the real small businesses out there. I have had the daily email for about a year now and I reckon it had something pertinent on it on about five or six occasions. Even when there is something you think you could do, they put up so many hurdles that it is not worth bothering.

First, once the free period expires, you actually have to pay a fair bit to actually get the details. This seems contrary to the concept of opening up tenders to the small business environment. Also since it seems to be run by a .gov.uk site - why are they fleecing businesses for subscriptions. As far as I can see the EU version, which has the occassional UK entry is free.

Secondly, once you get a response from whomever is tendering, there seem to be so many non-economic criteria that unless you have spent tens of thousands over the past year on ISO qualifications and other numbers then you will be dismissed as not suitable, even if your quote might be a fraction of the larger organisations.

In short - a huge disappointment.

It shouldn't be a surprise...lets face it this government is the most controlling that we have had since before the reform acts of the 18 century...with all the mind control, sorry email control, phone control, no protesting outside government buildings...

Typical of a government who know they have screwed up and over!! create fear, make eveyone fearful.

So to think that every business may have had a chance at tending for government...no chance a couple of big 'donations' and the same companies provide the same solutions!!!

An example was Essex County Council, had a ten year deal for one particular company to provide new laptops/service contract for laptops at £1000 per year fper laptop....Even PC world are cheaper!!! On individual deals imagine what they could have provided on a group purchase!!!

Essex realised their mistake a few years ago and bought themselves out of the contract. Although they still pendle some sh*te that employees need two separate laptops depending on what work and what ISP you have...they seem to not like cable ISP!!!

Strange that, a BT business were the supplier!!

Just make sure if you decide that this is a waste of tiem that you CANCEL IT IN WRITING. Skulking away in the small print is a fee if you have not canceled before the end of the first year.

It is part of the BIP organization who use "inertia" as a selling tool followed by court threats.

I use Tenders Electronics Daily for FREE :D. It's got all of the published UK Gov contracts, and you can tailor the email alerts pretty well in order to be project specific.

Quote from their web site:-
TED (Tenders Electronic Daily) is the online version of the 'Supplement to the Official Journal of the European Union', dedicated to European public procurement.

Can't post the URL apparently till I have 15 posts :(

It goes something like ted.europa.eu with no www at the front.

Even small government/council/public work, means

Limited Company
Registering for VAT

Having Creditors and Debtors, Accruals, Prepayments, assets, fixed or otherwise...

Personally I prefer to stay self employed, not have to collect and pass on taxes for the government and I certainly don't want creditors!!

I've been signed up for some time and to be honest i haven't found it much use. I hate being harassed to go on the latest "how to tender" course.

Big contracts are available to view free of charge at ted.europa.eu - you may need to register. Smaller contracts issued by local authorities are normally available on their own websites or through "local" procurement sites which are normally free to join and free to get alerts, view contracts. eg thechest.nwce.gov.uk serves local authorities in the northwest of england.

Sorry, I can't hyperlink as it is my first time on here :(

Hope that helps

anyone know the exact address we need to send a cancellation letter to?

.7 Should you wish to terminate your subscription, you are required to provide notification in writing to BiP Solutions Limited, Park House, 300 Glasgow Road, Shawfield, Glasgow G73 1SQ, or by email to [email protected]. No responsibility can be accepted for termination notices lost or delayed in the post.
Taking account of the last sentence I would suggest recorded delivery!

Was going to cancel as well, however this morning instead of the usual empty email I actually got something in my industry in my area, so even though think long term this is not worth carrying on I'm going to investigate this one.
Does anyone have any advice on formats or style to apply for tender on these things?

Regards

I am subscribed to their basic free service (supply2gov.co.uk), however, you can access all the tenders free by visiting Official Journal of the European Union http://eur-lex.europa.eu/JOIndex.do. I know it is a little bit tedious to sift through it every day and this does show all tender for the whole Europe, although you can filter just on the UK ones. Still use supply2gov, modify your selection as broad as possible so it includes all the relevant words relevant to your business and when it shows relevant tenders and asks you to upgrade (to pay) your supply2gov contract - just go to the above Journal and find the relevant tender..for free! I do it for our company and for our clients, doesn't take long...

Hope this is useful!
