So far all of these mobile phone attachment/apps are rubbish. If you want to take a VISA payment on any of them, rather than swipe the card through the device, you have to enter your customer's mobile number which then sends them a text message with a link to click. They then have to fill in their card details, expiry, security, etc as if they were just buying something online.
Hardly convenient!
I thought the new izettle app was now based on signature. My sister in law has one and she said you simply put their card in, the amount, and they sign it on the screen. But she did say its 2.7% and can only do credit cards (not debit cards).
Ps. Here's a video http://youtu.be/ygW_nm9if20
Not being funny but all these systems are rubbish and have huge complaint rate just type reviews into google. I think the problem is that most people now are very aware of fraud on cards and imagine someone said oh give me your card im just swiping it on my mobile phone it looks like your stealing their details. The only trusted method is a bank provided payment terminal and unfortunately they are expensive to small businesses. If your on a small local high street have you looked at what other shops are offering? We do not accept card in our store but if someone wants to buy using credit card we need to take payment on our website in store and then give them goods. Very annoying.
Does anyone know anything about SumUp card reader?
Have just been pointed to it as a way to take credit card payments on a smart phone/tablet, any thoughts?
There's recently been a Worldpay chip and pin reader launched that connects to a smartphone by Bluetooth - takes Visa and MC. Not done anything other than test it yet but seems easy and looks like a 'proper' chip and pin machine.
Neil.
it is vastly superior to the likes of iZettle
I totally agree, a few days ago whilst out for dinner I was handed a mobile phone with a reader on to make payment on. I have to say it did not feel secure and I ended up nipping out to the cash machine! The manager of the restaurant said this was a very common reaction.... Maybe consumers just are not read for this yet![]()
My friend and I are setting up a catering business and think one of these mobile payment devices would be quite cool. The first one I heard of was called SumUp but they don't have Chip & PIN. So then I found out about Izettle and Payleven. I think you have to pay for the Chip & PIN but SumUp's device is free (but no Chip). Does this really make a difference? They all seem to take the major cards. It looks like people here have already used all of these companies (and others!), any other pros / cons?
The hoops you have to jump through if you are a new business are ridiculous.
I think it may be a scam where they make it that difficult to be verified that you give up. In our case they let us take £500 before stopping our machine from working. Their web site says it is easy. Do not believe them!
Unless you are a limited company with a company registration number they are lost and ask for all sorts of documents which do not exist in the UK as they are all based in Germany.
Avoid these scammers!!!!!!!!
I would have thought you would have gone for Adyen Shuttle (with your keen eye for value)!!!!
Yes, it's same rates as POS. That's why it's such a good deal. Currently 14p on debit (granted that will change in line with other debit interchange cost increases). The rub is the £10 monthly MMSC and reader is £99 so for you maybe not a massive differential.
