Suggestions for best Internet / Telecoms solution

Hi

I run a small business and I'm in the process of finding a new service for my broadband and phone. Here's my current setup:

• Phone: Voip line via Gradwell.com (online via router)
• Landline and Internet: Talktalk, copper cable broadband (I get about 8mbps down and 0.5mbps up)

The main business phone number is VOIP. The talktalk broadband package comes with a landline and mobile calls package that we use to make outgoing calls (different number than the incoming VOIP).

Things that we don't have but we need:

• Static IP address
• Multi-user functionality. We need calls coming in on the main business number and if one user is busy on one handset the second handset will ring.
• Fibre broadband - We need high speed downloading and uploading as we move large files via the internet all the time. 78mb

I'm not sure whether sticking with VOIP or making a permanent move back to landline phone for the main line is the best bet. We've had a few minor issues with calls not getting through with the VOIP service but it's generally been OK.

Any advice or suggestions that anyone has to offer would be much appreciated.

For Fibre I can recommend Zen Internet and they can give you 1 Static IP address or a block of 8 free of charge.Have been with them for approx a year and have had no issues. Have also recommended them recently to two of my clients and both very happy. I'm not sure if they have VOIP service however drop an email to Tony Schofield [email protected] and tell him Abbas Muraj send you his details. Very decent and helpful chap.

The critical thing here will be what Broadband services are available at your property (I.e is Fibre To The Cabinet available). If you want to PM me your address/land line number, I will do a quick search to check what's available for you.

Other than that it should be pretty straightforward to port to whoever you chose.

As Leo says above it is about what is in your area. If no fibre on the BT network which most of us use then maybe Virgin would be a solution. Not recommending them as I know they are expensive but if you need fibre and there isnt any other than Virgin then horse for courses.

Hello Tom - I'd definitely be sticking with VoIP if I was you (certainly if you are able to upgrade to fibre) - I'd suggest reviewing and finding a package that gives you the best quality over reliability. Never go for the cheapest option with VoIP - you need to make sure you have good QoS (Quality of Service) in place.

Hi Tom,

Have you considered setting up PBX system on traditional landline which is another way to save money on your call cost as well if internet is an issue in your area?

There are many PBX out there you can convert analogue to digital and have your own VoIP setup without using broadband bandwidth.
