I am a business student. As part of my MSc, I'm required to analyse an SME and assist specifically in its digital strategy and transformation. The final product of my module is to complete a thorough professional report illustrating theoretical insights, consumer research and practical solutions which employed would provide competitive gain over its marketplace competitors.

I've picked a few local companies and really like one. As part of our assignment, we may intelligently assume some elements of workings within our chosen company and have no overt instruction to contact them for real data. However for the authenticity of my writing that is exactly what I'd like to do.

My question is, how to approach a business owner with the most effective tact? Should I impress you? Do I implore to you? How do we build trust? What is the best way to get on each other's side so I can work as an analyst for you?

Any feedback is appreciated. Cheers!

Pick up the phone and talk to them.

But without all the waffle you used in your post. Keep it very simple and just explain the reason for the call. If they are interested you may well be invited over for a discussion on the collaboration.

Not actually sure how anyone could do the research without first talking to the business.

Hello .....

I am doing a masters at university and seeking a local company to do some free consultancy work for. Its in the area of digital strategy and transformation. Please can I ask how to enquire about this with yourselves to see if the owners would agree to it?

Once done your business would gain a copy for yourselves so it make bring you some benefits or insights, for free.

Regards
