There seems to be an increase in spam posts. Might I suggest disallowing a new member to post anywhere other than Introductions and lifting the restriction once they have posting something in introductions and had at least two responses.

I was about to start a thread to complain about the same thing. I have nothing against people putting business ideas forward, but we're only one step away from "Send 1 dollar to each of the people on this list..." type posts.

I reckon we should hex 'em. I'm sure we have a member who can help with spells.

The best thing about making a curse on someone is they pretend they aren't bothered, but deep down it starts nagging at them until they fall apart with the worry.

So here goes,

Spammers, should you trouble us with your get rich schemes I shall call upon dark forces to undermine your every effort.

Can't the posts just get deleted - it keeps the board a bit clearer ?

Well... its an idea, but hexing sounds good too. Prolific spammers can be reported to their web / email hosts, or ISP's, especially for running fraudulant or "shady pyramid" schemes. You've been warned people.

I like the hex idea..........

Didn't we have a guy on here who set up a businees selling charms,chrystals etc.........can't remember his name but he had a cracking website.......

Hell my brain is fried and it's only Tuesday.

Hi all,

I am guessing Ozzy will be on to give his thoughts shortly.

I kow the idea of reducing a persons ability to post in other places on the forum has been discussed previously and up until now it has been decided to avoid going down that route as we want to get people involved and engaging on the forum straight away (there is nothing quite as frustrating as having something relelvent to post but not being allowed to post it due to restrictions).

I think the removal of spam comes back to Ozz, Alan (alpha) and I as Noderators to remove as quickly as possible. I know I have been absent for a few days due to client pitches and visits and not been able to check as often as possible but I will try to be a bit more pro-active.

Maybe it is cos I am a softy at heart (or want to see the good in people :) ) but alot of the spam or odd messages i leave for a while in case the author didn't realise what type of forum we are and will change once they look around.

hmm... yeah, I will have to review that train of thought. :D

Anyway, Don't want to speak on behalf of the other Noderators, but i personally will make a greater effort to check and delete spam more quickly.

p.s. Don't encourage Alan to become more aggressive, we will have no members left :lol:

Im a newbie but you make it very clear in your "IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT" thread in the introductions section that you don't want spammers dont you? (I don't do Spam by the way :wink:

Just an observation - perhaps you're being too nice!

I am with you Andy on wanting to give people a little breathing space in case of mistakes but I am not sure we have the balance right at the moment.

Spam is a concern for any public forum, not just this one. The only real way to cut it down is for moderators to delete it as quickly as possible.

The no posts until you do an intro is likely to be switched on, as at least that gives one most likely place for the spam to end up - easier to moderate ;)

There is a couple of new features and pages to come onto this forum in the next couple of weeks, including a "How to use the forums" section. Once that is here I think putting in the no posts until an intro will be more appropriate.

We're trying to keep the forums as clean as possible, but as they get busier they attract more spammers - its the nature of the beast :(

How quick do you want us to be :)

As Andy says we have to try and give them a chance......................NOT.

Check out Alan and his own personal SLA!

I can never spot the bl**dy stuff, let alone delete it in half a day. :)

I dunno if this has happened to anyone else but I have had a few spam pm's lately.

I know I could switch them off but then I may miss other more serious enquiries.

There isnt a lot that can be done about this. :roll:
