I have recently started up as a sole trader t/as pink slipper company, for instance.

Things are looking good, and in the next few months will be looking at incorporating the company, vat registration, etc?

My question is - can I register pink slipper company ltd via companies house for 18 quid now and have it dormant until I'm ready? Several months?

Cheers

Yes - that's not a problem. It can stay dormant for ever if you like. However it doesn't give you as much protection as a trademark or service mark and you probably ought to check the name there as well

Thanks that's great. When I register the company online, will hmrc send me forms giving me the chance to hold the name dormant, or do I need to actively inform them via email, phone or special form?

Much appreciated - I can't find the answers anywhere!
