    Best software experience please for:

Small online retail business links to bank account and simply takes record of sales / outgoing payments.

Must be idiot proof and not time consuming to set up.

Currently looking at quick books for it

    Thanks

There is no best one, it's really just about your preference of what you like using.

We found Quickbooks to be the most user friendly for us.

They bought out OneSaas a good few years ago now, so they have excellent (free) connectors for online retail businesses that connect all your marketplaces and carts.

However others may prefer a different accountancy software and then use a cheapish connector as they really like that accountancy software. Or just to import a CSV end of month.

All of the software can do what you need, so you just need to try some and see what you get on with best.

Have a look at VT software, great bit of kit for the price and loads of accountants use it.
Plus it’s not cloud based which makes it even better in my opinion.

In that case just use the same package as your accountant. They probably have a client login thing so cost to you is zero.

My wife describes Sage as 'smug' and moved to Xero, which she much prefers as its more user-friendly
They do think they are something that they are not Its a fair point
Sending statements was changed a while ago and I phoned and asked for help
He told me to spend a couple of hours watching the training videos cheeky little b£££££d

Do you have an accountant? My reason for asking is that you may find your accountant works with and can recommend something for you. They may also be able to get some discount on software to pass on to you.

I generally work with and recommend Accounts Portal and FreeAgent. FreeAgent would probably be slightly better suited to your requirements and is free if you bank with NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank or Mettle. The FreeAgent bank feed is very good.

If you are a sole trader who will need to comply with Making Tax Digital (MTD) from April make sure you choose software which is MTD compliant.

Most accounting software does basically the same stuff in different ways.

Maybe you need some more definition in what you want it to do e.g. does it connect to your website to get sales info? Do you need purchasing & stock keeping?
