As someone else has said. Stick to the ordinary, standard, 0800 numbers and websites.

I've got a camera phone and QR reader...never used it.

Telephone numbers or websites especially i'll remember, especially if i'm stuck behind your van at traffic lights.

Your van would have to be parked for it to work. You would also have to rely on your customers being slightly more nerdy/techy than the average to have a QR app on their phone. Personally I would rather have a memorable phone number (you could do this as '0800 call me now', or not if you prefer) and a decently memorable twitter name. Facebook is dead, but twitter might get you somewhere depending on your industry.

I've already got catchy telephone numbers, facebook and twitter and I'll admit I don't think QR codes will ever be as big as they could have been but it wouldn't detract from anything else and the key thing is it would be stored, as in the device's memory, whereas a telephone number, name or website has to be remembered.

It doesn't have to be parked either, though ours are for some time, which is another incentive as you can capture a photo or read via scanner on the move, though not at 70mph of course (unless you are also going 70mph !).

QR can also take you to a landing page of your choice and I'm not sure whether you can extract user data from someone through their use of a QR code. Perhaps ?

I don't see the downside and any upside has to be a good thing.

Yes i think you can use it in the same way as affiliate marketing, where people are directed to the landing page and it will track it as a visitor from a QR Code.

It may work as an additional piece of data on the side of your vans but I'd worry about the dreaded over kill of information.

Worth an experiment though I'm sure.

I'm concious of information overload as you point out but I'm going through an image branding for this business and with a free hand from logo and graphics upwards, it seems a decent place to start and incorporate a QR code. If I drop it later it won't matter too much.

Why limit yourself only to people with smartphones - use QR code in combination with SMS text shortcode.

So say "scan this code or text TALAY to xxxx to grab a copy of our brochure and receive a FREE consultation"

The autoresponse text that they receive back will contain your website address, telephone number and maybe a link to a PDF brochure. Your details are now captured on their mobile phone.. no scrabbling around for a pen at the traffic lights ;-)

We work with a driving school, for example, who has attracted over 100 requests this year from people texting the code on the side of her car...
