Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations for an SEO company, in the past to me it has always seemed like a license to print money and I've yet to see any real results, quite possibly could be because i'm using the wrong companies which is why I would be interested in seeing who others use with success please

I would be looking for something to make the website SEO friendly initially and then to carry on keeping an eye on it monthly

Many thanks

Is ranking on Google your prime marketing campaign?

Do you even know what you want to rank for?

Have you considered the alternatives (there are many)?

No, not prime marketing but quite high up with furthering our marketing, yes I know exactly what I wish to rank for and yes have considered and fulfilling many of the alternatives

Thanks

In which case this shouldn't be that complicated. There are some simple low cost strategies you can employ that work really well. But you need to let prospective partners see the site to put a quote together.

If you have a flair for writing then you can do most of it yourself. If writing isn't your thing then you need someone to do it for you - they don't have to be an SEO person.

It still is a license to print money, it’s like any other advertising field, “experts” will take your money to make you rich and when it doesn’t work they will blame it on something YOU haven’t done.

Any real SEO expert won’t be logged on to forums like this 24/7 telling people what to do, they would be too busy making companies (and themselves) very rich.

Remember, those who can, do.
Those who can’t, teach.

You need a marketing plan, rather than just thinking about ranking for keywords via SEO. It's a common mistake thinking that all keywords/search terms have the same value, the volume of searches differs massively from one term to another, plus you want to rank for terms that show relevant buying intent.

Essentially you want to think about this the other way around and come up with a marketing plan:-
  1. Who are your customers, what are they looking for and what do they search for (if it's online, it may not be)?
  2. What is your USP, why would they click through to your site/service?
  3. What is your content like, Google loves authoritative high quality copy, is yours better than the competition?
  4. What's the current situation for your site; e.g. mobile friendly, technical SEO setup, copy quality, current ranking metrics, conversion etc?
  5. How difficult is it to rank well in the market you operate in, are you aiming for local or national rankings?
  6. How many visits/leads/sales do you need to generate weekly/monthly?
Your SEO plans should be an element of an overall marketing/sales strategy, that way you can go into any conversations with any SEO companies/marketing agencies with goals in mind and talk to them about performance and how they will achieve what you actually need.

This type of process allows you to make a detailed comparison, the companies/people talking to you should be able to answer the questions based on insights, so you understand what they will do, what budget is required and approximately how long it will take to get results.
