I used to sell outside the UK when we were in the EU but later stopped due to Brexit and paperwork hassle. As it stands now what am I required to do when selling outside the UK if I start again, is there a simplified procedure or any guidance ?

It depends if the market you are in.

We can still get golfing supplies and greetings cards from the UK ( we are in a gift shop in Spain).

Chemicals including natural soaps etc have been a problem and so have electrical goods. So we have changed to EU suppliers.

Many of our UK suppliers are now dealing through agents here.

Hi NEF,
As per Trevor's response it really depends on the products you are selling.

If just general goods you will just need to generate an invoice and a packing list then I strongly recommend having an agent in place to complete export declarations on your behalf. A good agent will advise you any additional documentation required if product specific.

The EU buyer will then need to complete an import declaration, again using an import agent or traditional forwarder.

I have dealt with many of these questions and in all honesty it's never as difficult as you think it will be! Don't let BREXIT put you off exporting to the EU!!

Yes, @The customs clerk is right, don't let Brexit put you off, but it certainly has made it more difficult and costly.

On average we are paying €10 per consignment on top of delivery charges and we then have to mess about paying taxes etc online for each delivery. So from a buyers point of view it is not encouraging.

Again, we are in a retail gift shop situation so it depends on the market you are in.

I would like to invite members of this group who are experiencing any difficulties with the fallout from Brexit to join an experimental trial to see if we can overcome problems with trade to Europe.
I am piloting a new European hub service in Amsterdam, primarily focussed on reducing cost, time and paperwork for UK companies selling products into the EU market.
In order to find out if the service will actually achieve these ends, I am looking for a few members in the group to test it out free of charge.
Any businesses experiencing trouble with double tax, time delays or trade issues with Europe could benefit from this opportunity.
I trust this invitation comes across in the spirit of mutual support that is a foundation of this group and not one of sales and marketing. Please feel free to disregard this message if it comes across otherwise.
Selected invitees should be happy to share our progress within the group, both bad and good, as long as the moderators are happy for this. Thank you for your attention I hope we can work together to keep UK business trading into the EU.

Hi
We had a look into this as we had major issues in July 2021 even after being IOSS registered. Customs would reject parcel or charge customers taxes and duty etc. It was a huge mess and very costly.

Shipping from the EU, with goods stored in the EU requires one to be VAT registered in the country your goods will be stored in. So for example if you are going to use a 3pl or open your warehouse in say France, you will need to be VAT registered in France. Then if you are going to sell in other EU countries, not just France then you also have to register for OSS so you can collect the taxes on your online store checkout.

Then each month you will need to provide the necessary sales information to the company that will be handling your VAT returns and OSS submissions and pay the taxes you have collected from each countries sales. Remember VAT rates are different in each EU country so you really want a web platform that can handle that or open an individual store aimed for that specific country.

After looking through all of our options we opted for FRANCE, as it didn't require fiscal representation, it seemed like the quickest time to get our registrations in place and it was the closest to the UK so sending our goods from here to there would be "cheaper and quicker".

We are now able to send our goods to the whole of EU much faster than we ever could from the UK, we can ship to Ireland and other EU countries in 1 day and overall our customers are much happier.

I hope this information helps
