Hi All,

I'm the owner of a DIY Wholesaler in the UK and 99% of our business is done in this country whoever after doing a bit of research I have seen an opportunity to sell one of our biggest selling products in mainland europe. The item is easily available all across europe but the price that we can sell at is extremely competitive. Where I've hit a dead end is how to get into contact with retailers or distributors in europe to let them know about the product. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

Some weeks ago I came across a EU distributor an Alibaba. Unfortunetly, I do not remember the company's name...

U can try "Kompass" and "Europages".

Best,

Dragons Den immediately came to mind when I read your post: "you haven't even tried to contact them?" "You've only sent e-mails??" "Listen, what you need to do is grab some samples, march into their head office, and ask to see the person in charge of buying. If they won't see you, leave your samples with the receptionist. I guarantee you that someone will look at it, and if they like it they will get in touch."

Those aren't direct quotes, I'll admit, but many a sentences along those lines have been uttered in the famous den. ;)

To get to the point, though: surely this is a job for Google? Select a few countries where you want to start, and take it from there? Shouldn't be too hard, surely, unless I'm misunderstanding your problem?

Hi DD456,

Something that should be considered when you look at which countries to target is your product liability insurance. Basically what happens if a product you supply to say - France - is found to be defective and causes an injury as a result. You need to make sure that your product cover will protect you in which ever country you target. It's one of those things that sometimes go's unnoticed but rears up and destroys a previously flourishing business.

Kind Regards

Tim

Part of the problem was actually finding our target customers on google but the suggestion of Kompass on the previous post has been very helpful and opened up quite a few leads
