Royal Mail - Track and Trace - Quick Mini Help Wanted

I have a problem with a package not having arrived.

It was sent last Thursday and is only showing it has made it to the local post office - which is where I posted it.

I have not had to chase up an issue before but does it normally show progress through the system or only at the start and end of it's journey.
I know some couriers can track it all the way through.

It also does not seem to be possible to track where it is going to.
Am I missing a trick or is this not possible.

(Or for delivered ones - where it has been delivered)

That's probably because it didn't get much further than the sorting office before the bank holiday started.

You don't usually get anything between having been accepted at the PO and delivery. So give it a couple more days and you can then see whether or not delivery has been attempted.

Also remember that RM don't consider anything 'lost' until after 17 days have elapsed......

Don't you get a baby sitter type support for the first three months of track and trace to help you locate parcels and sort them out, I know there is a help line after the first three months as well, and you can always contact your account manager and get them to look into it.

Bah, royal mail track and trace absolute travesty.

Only approaches working when they have done their job properly. If anything goes wrong and you really need to track and trace you haven't a hope of tracking it and all you'll get is ,"Your item is currently progressing through our system," couple this with 72 hours before a signature is possible makes this service very weak indeed. However it is still the best for parcels under 1kg in weight.

Apparently the mail isn't treated any differently than standard mail until it reaches the recipient, only THEN does it become 'traceable'...it is a poor service really, the only upside is that you are covered for up to £39 - that said, you have to provide receipts for what YOU paid for the item plus postage, it takes no account of the lost revenue if the customer decided not to re-order!

Not when it reaches the recipient but when delivery is attempted.

This is quite useful for those cases where the postman doesn't leave a card or leaves it with a neighbour who doesn't inform the recipient or the recipient can't be bothered to collect it but tells you just that it hasn't arrived.

I think you are talking about recorded delivery here.

Special Delivery is treated quite differently and there is a degree of tracking during the process, for instance, it will tell you if it is out for delivery as promised. My point is that if they have mucked up, this part of the tracking also becomes useless as it just says something innane like 'progessing through our system'.

I recently posted three items special delivery. One on the 21st May and two on the 28th May. The one I posted on 21st May is still at the Post Office according to the website. One item posted on the 28th May has been delivered, the other " is progressing through the system". What does that mean. If you make a complaint, it takes four day to get an acknowledgement, then three weeks to get a reply with an apology, and if you are luck , a free book of stamps. Absolute rubbish.
