I am not tech savvy, and don't understand many of the words, but I have an issue.

Until recently I had a Samsung A40 mobile phone. Never any issues, worked perfectly, internet access through router at home (Talk Talk, new router about 4 months ago). Network is Tesco Mobile (uses 02, I believe). My hisband had the same set up.

Last week we both got new handsets, Samsung A12. Nothing else has changed. The Tesco mobile shop did the migration between handsets.

Now I have no internet connection on either my or husband's phone. Occasionally there intermittently. I have reinstalled the connection, reset the router, done everything I can think of. Went back to the shop where the extremely patronising young man downloaded (using the shop Wifi, which worked perfectly), an update to my phone and did something to the data network. Full internet access. Came home, intermittent internet access. Last night tried turning off bluetooth and data access and Wifi worked perfectly. This morning it has gone again.

The superior young man in the shop told me it was a fault with the router, which he could not diagnose as he could not come to my home. Everything else, PC, laptop, old phones, TV, works perfectly.

    Any suggestions please?

First thing is to turn off the wifi on the phone making sure data is enabled

Do you get internet on the phone

    • Yes - the issue is the wifi/router
    • No - bad signal

    If it's no
Turn on Wifi and turn off data on the phone

    Try again, can you connect

    • Yes - its a bad signal in the area
    • No - the issue is the wifi/router

Thanks. Turned off Wifi, turned on data, got connection.

    BUT

Turned off data, turned on Wifi, got connection.

It seems to be an intermittent problem - with both on half an hour ago there was no connection.

It could be a Samsung specific issue but often what happens is they get in a muddle swapping between Wifi.

I would leave data off for a day, see how you get on then do the same for wifi and enabling data (assuming you have a lot of data allowance)

You can get apps that will auto turn off data when you are at home

I'll try that. I just noticed that my email was not up to date, with WiFi and data enabled and just WiFi it could not fnd any new emails. On data only, they appeared.

Did you try giving the handsets a 'Bang?' - Just like we used to do with televisions when the 'Vertical Hold Valve' was about to expire, and the the picture just rolled! Televisions back then were just like the 'idiot's Lantern' episode - From Dr Who! - My father could follow Snooker on a Black & White television set!

That memorable commentary - "And for those of you watching in black and white, the blue is behind the pink ...."

It might be set for certain apps to only use data, instead of wifi and data.

    Settings/connections/data usage/mobile data only apps
    Thanks
Mobile data only is turned off.
I have told the phone, it has until tomorrow to sort itself out. Then it is going back!

Factory reset phone. Not sure what you mean by they did the migration. If they transferred data good chance they transferred data over and some Certificates are corrupted.

Next thing I would do is change the WiFi password on the router. 8 - 9 characters or digits no special characters and see how that goes.

Make sure the huawai router you got there from tt has the latest firmware. If your firmware is older than 2 years this could be an issue with new phones due to some WiFi security issues. TT can help with that to figure out what firmware and when last updated.

Also check Samsung manual for a setting that allows mobile data used instead of WiFi if the phone thinks that mobile data is faster speed than WiFi.

TT routers can be Huawei or Sagem, they look very similar but have different firmware and are both c**p. Had two in the previous house, on my third in this house. Still have intermittent dropouts.

Is your wifi signal strength poor?

There is a setting to automatically use data if the wifi signal drops below a certain strength, the device switching back and forth can confuse it. Try switching this off.
