Hi @Dom K and welcome to UKBF.

Turning the question around, how many adverts on roundabout can you recall? If you can, have you ever looked at their websites?

An acquaintance of mine advertises on a roundabout to some effect BUT it is close to their showroom and acts more as a guide than a true "cold' promotion.

Is there any relevance to your business in this location?
Hi Mark,
Our business is based nearby to the roundabout. We are exterior cleaners, High pressure hot washing to buildings, drives, roofs etc. It is expensive to advertise there, worth it if we get the return. The traffic crawls through there at weekends so our sign/advert would get plenty of views

Is this commercial or domestic cleaning or both. What is this weekend traffic doing? Are they on their way somewhere? Is it local traffic?

Not saying this couldn’t work but if you are commercial cleaners and most of the traffic is families off to Tesco how much value will the advert deliver?

The local garden centre advertises and maintains the roundabout so it works for them. Like @Mark T Jones says, it’s a signpost.

Residential and commercial. There are plenty of DIY'ers milling about. B&Q, Wicks, Homebase, The Range, Dunelm etc.

Maybe these people have their own pressure washers.

Not trying to be negative but the likelihood is the people queuing at the roundabout aren't your target customers.

I don't know the answer - maybe the only way to find out is pay the money and see what happens. Have you ever seen an advert on a roundabout and looked them up when you get home?

If it helps, I have seen loads of roundabout adverts. i have never recalled what they advertised for more than 15 seconds. That my be different if they were advertising something I was thinking AT THAT TIME of getting, but it has never happened.

It's a good point that you make. it will be an expensive punt if we give it a go, that's the only way we will know.
    Given it's an experiment...

    1. Is this the best way to experiment with your marketing buck ? Do you already have a polished and professional Google Business profile ?

    2. How will you measure the success or failure of a roundabout ad' ?

It's what I like to describe as a 'Random Act of Marketing' - Doesn't fit with any plan or strategy, just something you've decided you like the idea of. (I can identify some great outcomes from RAMs, but have chosen not to admit the overall cost)

If you are going to do it, take it from your Casino budget - you may hit gold, but in reality you'll probably see little or no return.

Looked into roundabout signs as well as lamp post banners last year. Some of our competitors use them to advertise their showrooms since they are set back from the main road slightly and it acts as an extension to their shop front.

We couldn't get the lamp posts nearest to us but the prices were a bit insane anyway. So we looked at a smaller sign on a roundabout in order to do the "we're on the next exit" sort of signage which was dearer! We couldn't get our heads around that, since most people will be looking left and right and not directly at the roundabout and anyone on public transport will be side on.

I'd be really really keen to see some data on this. I highly suspect most companies using it purely as a marketing method (and not doing what the competitor above is doing by using it as their showroom signage) don't actually know if it's working. Of course, their strategy might also be to carpet bomb the area with their adverts in order to drown out the competition rather than direct sales.

I've forgotten what is being advertised by the time I'm past the roundabout.
Usually local garden centre who are suppling the plants and flowers for it.

However, I live in the South, when driving near Leeds / Elland area, there are signs for an Indian restaurant all round the roundabouts and down the grass central reservation.

Do you record where sales come from? You see on insurance sites sometimes "Where did you hear about us...." with a load of options. You'd be better off leaflet dropping surely for the type of business you are.
