We are in the first part of talking to a supplier in Turkey which we are hoping to start with very soon. Only part that we have not looked in to yet and to get an idea of cost is a 40ft container. We have agreement with the supplier that the cost will include FOB which is I think them filling the container and transporting it to the port. The container will be filled only with our items and not shared. All we would like to know is a rough figure how much it would cost for a Freight Forwarder to transport by Sea Freight to Immingham and deliver to our address and sort the paperwork along the way. We know that different Freight Forwarders will have different prices but a rough idea will give us a rough cost per individual item that the supplier will give us and an idea if it is something we can pursue. Any tips as well would greatly appreciated as well as it is something we have never done before, thanks.

Never done this before so don't know if I'm right or wrong but I think it is best if it comes in to the closest port to where you want the delivery made to, like I say never done this before.

Often depends where the ship is due to go. 800 containers for one port and one for another further along the coast... ?

I've only shipped stuff the other way, but you're probably looking at £1000-1500. However, you'll have import duties and VAT to add. The duty will depend on what you're importing.

Pulling the shipping section of the quote from my phone notes, bearing in mind this is 3 years old, different exchange rates and doesn't include a designated port the quote per container from Turkey per container was back then just over a grand.
The quote was for 3 containers.

Contact 6 UK freight forwarding companies who have their agents in Turkey and ask them to put their quotes in writing, including ALL costs delivered to your door.

Choose the one that is best for you.

Felixstowe will be the main destination port, with a much lesser amount to Southampton. From there, they will be delivered by road.

Hi Kay. We are a UK based freight forwarder, with a strong agent in Turkey. We'd be happy to provide you with a quote, no strings attached, for this, could you let me know which town your delivery address is, plus which port in Turkey you will be shipping from (Your supplier should be able to confirm) and I will do so. Please note that it will only be a "rough" price, as rates change reguarly, and we would have to update it when you do actually ship. For reference, FOB stands for "Freight On Board", and the shipper will pay all charges until the container is loaded on board the ship in the load port of Turkey, you will have to cover freight, UK charges, and any insurance for goods. Hope this helps.

I can recommend a company called Aspray International - based in Willenhall they imported a car for me from Turkey and the rate was around £800 though that was a few years ago.

Hi, for reference, would be careful comparing a container rate to a vehicle rate, RORO (Roll On, Roll Off) prices are completely different for container rates, and dependant if the vehicle was shipped in a 20ft container, or as RORO cargo, it could vary immensely. I would definitely suggest, as has been mentioned above, asking for rates from a few forwarders and seeing what you get back. Mike

As per other suggestions, I would speak to a freight forwarder. There are many available including the "well knowns" like Fedex. They generally provide a quote but just be aware of duty you will pay whn it lands in the country.
